wow.. i honestly did not see this coming. Im happy about some of the fights we will get to see.. but i also didnt mind having the competition between two big organizations.
I heard that everybody will still fight under the name STRIKEFORCE so it wont merge with ufc
Which kind of dissapoints me
this is fucking huge. The UFC is an unstoppable force.
WTF?? I thought this was an early April fools joke until I saw the video of Dana talking about it.
yeah i just watched the video.. and it sounds like they are going to continue doing things as usual. Keeping strikeforce and UFC separately. well that kind of sucks. I was looking forward to seeing some of these fighters mix.. especially in the heavyweight division.
I've wanted to see Overeem and Jacare in the ufc for a while. I hope the UFC changes their mind about not borrowing fighters signed under Strikeforce.
I didn't follow the WEC purchase, but didn't UFC own WEC for quite a while before they 'merged'?
I give it a year at MOST before they start to merge the 2 under one heading.
I hope this just removes the many roadblocks that the UFC places in front of them ie; counter programming/promoting. This alone would be huge! I would be lying if I said this didn't worry me about the future direction/destiny of StrikeForce in general. I am waiting to hear Micheal Afromowitz's position before I will really know...
I'm excited as fuck about this
imagine the fights IMAGINE THE FIGHTS :) :)
What do you think Dana will do with Paul Daley?
In two years, bye bye women fighters. Thank god! I hate watching bitches fight; unless they are hot and shirts are getting torn off in the parking lot of a bar.
Hell to the yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!
now if dana really wanted for cain vs alistar to happen it could or move fedor to ufc and have him fight brock.
There is no way Dana can resist having nick diaz, overeem and fedor in the UFC. I am sure he is gonna transfer "some" fighters to UFC but leave the majority in strikeforce. Like Mayhem, jacare, robbie, they are stuck there IMO.
Oh and he is gonna give Dan Henderson a lolipop and a UFC T-shirt for his contract renewal bawahahaha :D
This is the best thing that could have possibly happened in MMA.
Reasons "taking up to two years to come to fruition":
1. In two years the Showtime contract will NOT be renewed.
2. All Strikeforce fighters excluding Semtex, Fedor and Barnett w...ill be adsorbed.
3. No more chick fights. EVER!
4. Super fights! Example... Alestar vs Cain.
5. In two years the retarded fat tongued Strikeforce announcers will be out of jobs.
6. NICK DIAZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7. NICK DIAZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8. NICK DIAZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9. DIAZ vs GSP
10. New UFC welterweight Champ NICK DIAZ!
Don't forget about Roger Gracie.
Why is this good for MMA? Think carefully. I've rolled with more than one "chick" who I'd lay very good money on whipping your ass. Plus a few more who frequent this board that I haven't rolled with. Kim Ferguson comes to mind. As does Gabby Bella. I'd put a sizable sum on Ashley Kennedy too.
i wonder if this will cause many problems amongst fighters.....paycuts? will elbow strikes be put back in on the ground? rogan said that may be a cool rule to watch for strategy and watching fights continue without being stopped. nowhere for big fighters to go if their pissed at dana i think regardless if he says "business as usual".
I'm disgusted at this news , there needs to be other mma besides ufc . all this merger and takeover stuff is like gangsterism all over again i hate it
If I am going to pay money to view a fight, I want to watch the BEST. Women are not as athletic, and that is just reality. When I order a PPV I want to see a spectacle of violence that I can't see at local events. I want to see elite level fighters. Women are just not able to do what men are in a fight. Don't throw the "they could kick your ass" card. No one is paying to watch me fight.
Good for Bellator or bad for Bellator? I think it probably makes them #2 MMA promotion now, right? I mean there's Dream in Japan, and there's Shark fights, but I think Bellator just became #2, maybe #3 behind Dream. Thoughts?
I would agree with that assessment of Bellator being number 2 now. I would be inclined to say that Dream should be number 2 in terms of the amount of talented fighters under the Dream banner and the spectacle that a Dream show is but with FEG and Dream/K1's future being unknown one must think that Bellator is number 2 now. That's a good thing because i love everything about Bellator and i really hope that they aren't going to be the next name added to Dana's gravestone of MMA organizations he has killed. They put on great shows and have a lot of talented fighters. I think the same thing about Dream, there is something very exciting about watching a Dream event (especially Dynamite) i don't know if it has something to do with the spectacle they put on, the nostalgia for Pride FC that is associated with it, or the fighters and fights themselves but Dream shows are always very entertaining to me. I hope that they make it through there current financial troubles although it appears that they may not. One thing im interested in figuring out is what will become of fighters that i assume are primarily under contract with Dream (i have no idea about how Dream/SF contracts work so forgive me) but are also apparently under contract with Strikeforce/Showtime and now Zuffa and are fighting on the upcoming April 9th Strikeforce card like Shinya Aoki and Tatsuya Kawajiri among others in the future I'm sure. With Dreams future unknown and these fighters under contract with Zuffa to fight in SF will they continue to fight under the SF/UFC/Zuffa banner or will this be a one time thing and these fighters will be put on the shelf until Dream either puts new fights together or folds.
Bjorn Rebney says he won't sell: http://mmajunkie.com/news/22813/bjor...wn-destiny.mma
fingers crossed that dana white will improve the pay of some of those lower level fighters with his increased revenue.
That's good to hear about Bjorn Rebney i just hope that Bellator remains profitable enough to stay afloat, regardless of if Rebney would sell the company or not. I would hate to see them fold or be sold either way, its too bad though that guys like Hector Lombard, Eddie Alvarez, Ben Askren, Cole Konrad and so on and so forth wont get the chance to earn the recognition they deserve just because one organization has a monopoly (for better or worse...there's many pros and cons to that argument) on most of the highly ranked fighters. There are so many fighters in Bellator that have an incredible amount of talent that will unfortunately remain pretty much unknown to all but the most hardcore of MMA fans. Even there champions that i named above are and probably will continue to be known to casual fans only by the odd mention of their names by people that are 'in the know' so to speak. At minimum i hope that casual fans come to recognize the talents that their champions possess and hopefully thier rankings reflect that as well, but IMO the real bummer out of this whole situation is that casual fans and even some more astute MMA followers more than likely will never see and or appreciate the talents and abilities of some of the less well known fighters in Bellator: Toby Imada (save another submission of the year award that is), Alexander Shlemenko, Patricky and Patricio "Pitbull" Friere......just to name a few.
I hope that Dana uses the revenue to increase fighters salaries too but i have a feeling that it will continue to be "business as usual"...
Jason...I wouldn't even worry about anything this douche has to say. Maybe his mom didn't breast feed him long enough or something cus he has been bashing women since the day he came on this site. His point of view is completely meaningless as he doesn't even train martial arts and is only here to bash others and annoy the rest of us. All you have to do is do a search on his name up in the search bar and look at his past comments. Hey you never know though...Maybe that girl that beat his ass on the playground in front of everyone will say shes sorry an he'll do a 180. In the mean time...no one cares what the dick has to say.
I think fighters in ufc could really benefit from a union formation.
Rumor has it they bought Strikeforce for $40 million. Strategically, Scott Coker is a great asset to help the UFC enter Asian markets like South Korea and Japan. He's got a lot of good experience in dealing with those cultures from a business perspective.
