Not an act Stephan. Renato is as real as a heart attack.
I have hung out with Renato quite a bit and helped him learn the areas around Los Angeles.
He is fun to kick it with and is quite good with the ladies, but...(ATTN: THIS IS NOT A JOKE)...the first time I met up with him for lunch, he actually fucking wore his Gi!
I'M TOTALLY SERIOUS.
If you don't believe me, guess what? You'll see it in a future episode of MTS.
I couldn't believe it, but he wore it just to prove a point!
P.S. He is always flossing. He has this weird thing about super clean teeth. I dunno. Said it was something about it looking "not poor," but I told him that many wealthy people also have shitty teeth. Kinda quirky and I wonder if he is maybe OCD. He is an interesting dude to say the least.

Renato is legit
He suffers from Toxmoplasmosis. Most Brazilian men who have lived in major cities have it. It makes him aggressive and very defensive about what he believes in. He is definitely legit. Look at it like this. If we all spent years training 10th Planet and some guy came along and created a system with Shin Guards to protect lockdown and neck spikes to block gogo's we would get angry about our blackbelts being useless in a fight on the beach too.
Whoa man, don't call his ju Jitsu useless. That's pretty disrespectful. I'm sure he could choke the fuck out of you.

Come on guys. It is all Jiu Jitsu. I think if you truly love Jiu Jitsu you would be open to learning every aspect and evolution of it. You are being just as bad as Renato by starting shit like this. So he loves bjj and defends it. So what. You love and defend 10thpjj. I respect gi and nogi, but mostly I respect the people who are open to it all. You have all talked about how Jiu Jitsu is about being open minded. But a lot of you, if it's not 10thpjj than you won't have anything to do with it. That's being very narrow minded. Just stick with what works for you and let others do the same. Don't chastize people for having a fucking opinion. Be open minded. Practice what you preach.

For starters, many people make this mistake, but 10th Planet JJ is BJJ. It is not a separate entity, but more like a branch of a very large tree. So, we practice and drill any and all techniques that work on a high level for No-Gi. That includes a lot of traditional JJ.
Also, keep in mind that at HQ, people do in fact show Renato proper respect. Eddie doesn't allow people to disrespect one another at the gym. He is very serious about that, so if anyone is being disrespectful, you can bet they are not from HQ.
Renato is a tough cookie, but he is very knowledgeable and just comes from very specific circumstances. Although he can be difficult sometimes, we all definitely appreciate his charisma and talent.

When you gonna train with weights, do you need to take the weights home with you to see if you gonna have muscles? No. If you train hard,the muscles gonna stay. It's the same with the Gi. That's Jiu-Jitsu.Quote:

Its important not to turn this Gi vs no Gi into a Religious following for years to come. Simply be open minded about both. I hardly ever do Gi because I get hot easy but I am wondering if it really does make your Jiu Jitsu better.

LOLZ --- I think everyone is missing a huge point! 10th Plantet JJ is adapted for use in MMA! Last time I checked, you are not allowed to wear a Gi in MMA plain and simple! There's a forum titled "Possible Conspiracy" where a few people were talking about that. Someone said the guy's name from the website is Rhassaan. I don't know if he was being serious or not.

Renato did do some modeling in brasil and Steve hired him from an agency about a year ago, that's how he heard about 10th Planet. If it wasn't for melee Renato would not be training at my academy. You guys really need to chill out about the conspiracy, you're starting to scare me :)
