Nobody is going to let you get out like that. When you sit up, the other guy does nothing to defend. If he gets seatbelt control with his left arm going under and right arm going over, it's a real easy back take and you can't roll. Nice idea, but very low percentage and very risky.
Didn't somebody just post something real similar to this? Either way....I'm 100% sure this will not work. You see what I did there?
see i thought that too, but ive hit that calf crush before live rolling back in the US
Bobby, I hit on my training partners at 10p st. paul... i understand that the video is slow without a simulated defense i was just recording for other people to see, when we whip up from a lock down we go to our sides and the only thing stopping us from taking the back is your opponent putting in a wizzer, well when i shift to the outside like that there isnt a way to put a wizzer in for him after i whip up because im not going across the back. all i need to do is clear his outside arm with my inside arm and im sitting up next to him while hes on all fours, obviously hes not just gonna let me take his back but if he rolls into me we end up sitting in twister side with the grapevine in, if he rolls away hes either giving up his back still or his leg spins and you have the truck. Im not exactly sure if this will work the majority of the time, if you clear that arm there isnt anything stopping you from sitting up.
I've hit that off on arm drag when I have an underhook in half guard. I used Brents technique below with this transition..I switch the hooks, arm drag and roll.. usually the guy defends by falling to his back, you can get to the truck or power the legs down and get the backhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMVTC...8D7CF00A65110B
switch that last statement if he rolls away its the twister side with grapevine, if he rolls in there his back or he rolls completly through to the truck
NO .. you roll with him, and get the truck, not twister side.. this is why JJ is personal my friend ;)
yea, seatbelt all day, i mean i see what your saying about going slow for video, but my original instructor taught this calf crank and its very low percentage + a huge chance of getting your back taken against anyone who knows what theyre doing. that seatbelts comin though bruh.
awesome these will really up my HG
jay when im pushing up and through im not stopping, at least not when im going to try and hit the truck, as soon as i clear his left arm with my left arm im grabbing the shin and swimming hard with my right and going over, i totally understand what your saying with HIM seat belting me.
Sean, i dont sit up there holding the calf crush i usually just grab the leg and go straight back down to apply the pressure, also i get what your saying if he turns into me its an easy back take... im not expert at any of this by any means just brought it here to be disected and looked at.
Thanks guys for the input!
It doesn't matter if you stop, you could get this one time maybe on another white belt, but this would not work past that. At least not from the half-guard. I see how it could work from an armdrag, but not with the lockdown already on.
Dude, sorry to burst your bubble, but I invented that move the day before you posted the video. I named it the "Ric". ;)
Isn't there a rule against people posting these kinds of videos online?
The first thing I saw in the slow motion versions was that when you rolled for the truck, you were gripping his foot with your left hand. That could potentially give your opponent an armbar if he snatches that arm before you let go and switch grips to grab the free foot with your left hand and establish the truck.
Jonathan,
I'm having trouble discerning the tone of your response, so I'll just give you my opinion.
For starters, I think that enthusiasm for techniques in Jiu Jitsu is wonderful and something that I want to be supportive of. That being said, here are my personal issues with the videos in question.
The gentleman in the video is wearing official 10th Planet apparel as he instructs, which has potential to give the casual viewer the idea that the person performing techniques on the video is a 10h Planet instructor. NOTE* This type of thing has caused problems for our community in the past.
His avatar on this forum would suggest that this man is a white belt i.e. new to Jiu Jitsu, and traditionally in the BJJ community it is frowned upon for someone of this rank to be teaching Jiu Jitsu to others, as they clearly should be focused on first learning it themselves.
Also, the focus of this video is not of a person who learned a transition, or technique from a qualified instructor and wants to gather input from higher ranking guys on whether, or not he is performing it correctly. This is a video which is clearly focused on the innovation of a transition, or technique. Personally, I don't understand this need for innovation in Jiu Jitsu at the low levels. As an instructor myself, I have seen this many, many, times. In most of the gyms that I have trained in, or visited, a new student even asking questions about innovation is often frowned upon, and rightly so because it often detracts from the other students learning proper technique. 10th Planet is the most open minded system that I have encountered, but that doesn't mean that anything goes. Remember that Eddie has stated himself that "10th Planet Jiu Jitsu is anything that works at the highest levels in no-gi Jiu Jitsu." When people come to Eddie with this kind of stuff, which they often do, Eddie will usually ask them "have you seen it done in competition, or done it yourself in competition?" Eddie is super generous with his time and he is very patient. That is why he is a notch above the rest. However, the answer from these students is usually no.
Most people have a limited amount of time per day that they are able to spend training Jiu Jitsu. There are already an amazing amount of techniques that already exist that one could spend their time trying to master. The gentleman who posted this video is a white belt. It is my personal belief that he should be spending his time perfecting his fundamentals and teaching his body essential movements necessary for Jiu Jitsu, instead of trying to create new transitions and moves. I am not trying to be offensive, this is just my opinion.
You wrote "He is not an affiliate he can post what ever the hell he wants who's going to stop him?"
If you're correct about this, my guess is that no one will stop him, but if you want to gain the respect of the higher ranking guys on the forum, in BJJ in general and make friends with them (which seems like it would be the smart thing to do), he might want to consider stopping himself from correcting their posts and also from posting these kinds of videos.
It appears that this video has already gotten some quality responses from a few higher ranking guys, and the answer seems to be clear, but if a black belt comes on here and says the transition is solid and I am wrong about my retort, I will certainly apologize. :-)
Just my 2 cents.
I agree with most of what you said and personally think the technique is garbage (sorry Michael) but this forum has no hard and fast rules and you were confusing a Rule Eddie set for affiliates who are contractually obligated to abide ,with a guy on a forum practicing free speech. I just wanted to clear that up I guess I did a shitty job of articulating it.
Can you Edit this as a general statement instead of a response with specific references and post that version as well so I can quote you with it every time somebody posts one of these threads since it happens at least once a month. I think it would be the perfect response to these threads.
How can you think it's the perfect response to a thread yet you disagree with him and think anyone should be allowed to post?
Eddie set the rules for anyone on this forum, that you have to be a brown belt to post technique videos. This is clearly labelled as "New Transition", but it's not. His school is 10th Planet St Paul, so he trains at an Affiliate, and teaches it in the army, right? So therefore, he has to play by the rules Eddie set.
Johnathan,
I'm not going to edit my statement. I believe that my statement as a whole is a good representation of what I have to say.
You wrote: "this forum has no hard and fast rules and you were confusing a Rule Eddie set for affiliates who are contractually obligated to abide ,with a guy on a forum practicing free speech."
I don't believe that I was confused about anything. I didn't make a statement. I asked a question. Secondly, I don't think this is a free speech issue at all. I never said that he cannot post anything he likes, I just advised against it and explained why I disagree with him doing it in the first place. Lastly, you don't need to quote me every time someone posts one of these threads. It would be unnecessary and I have no real authority to tell him what he can and cannot do. Once again, I just advised against it. You know...practicing my free speech.
Jonathan,
I feel like you are on the attack on this thread. Not sure why you are so passionate with your responses, but I feel like its potentially a bad choice. Maybe I am misunderstanding your posts and if I am, I apologize, but the guys who are giving their input here are ranked purple and brown belts and I think you should be a little more respectful of that. In the end obviously you should do whats right for you, but I would suggest you consider that. Just my opinion.
Ok, heres the thing guys, Im stuck in kuwait with no teacher, Im gonna be here awhile and they allowed me access to a building with mat's i dont have all my tourny wins on video to start a hot box but Eddie said i could if i got them done here, this video was put together at the end of 3 hr class and took 10 minutes, i teach everything straight outta the MTS books, i was going over the truck and saw 1 pic of the deja vu and remember thats how i accidently ended there one time off a classic half guard lock... this is by no means me trying to teach YOU a move im trying to even see if it works at all thats why i brought it here for people above my level to look at it and let me know "hey thats not gonna work he'll roll your ass" and then why, which you all have been doing and i think thats great the more advice on anything i can get is always welcome
second, I had no idea about a rule posted video teaching techniques, I just wanted incite into something i stumbled upon and wondered if anyone with more knowledge could help
Like I said my intention was not to attack anybody just to clear up that the rule in question did not apply to this situation.
:)
If I'm wrong and that is Eddies wishes it should be posted somewhere so we can politely point it out to people. Case and point Michael had know idea what we were talking about. I looked for the place I originally saw Eddie post this because it was stated different but couldn't find it.
There, its posted.
Don't be mad you were wrong.
At least he didnt make the vid in the living room.
