The fact that Mastering the Rubberguard doesn’t suck.
It's funny because I was on YouTube a few years ago and ran into one of the Submissions 101 videos. There would be almost daily updates and Eddie was in some of them showing the 10th Planet techniques. One day all the videos with Eddie in them were taken down with a note saying it was because he was starting this site. Then here I am.
used fight people for fun. smoked weed, did mushrooms. Used to steal books like crazy because i lacked funds. stole mastering rubberguard. Was doing wrestling, and mma. signed up for bjj class on while on mushrooms. Used rubberguard from books and submissions 101. became obsessed. Jail. NOPE.JPEG. Reformed. Don't steal. No more stupid shit. pay for books. compete in bjj and no-gi and wrestle still. its been almost a year since i took that book. bought dvd's and other stuff with some gear to contribute. it's probably going towards 10p or weed so well spent even though i can't smoke anymore.
Fornicate with women and obtain currency on daily basis now. use twister more this year. Life slowly improving.
When I started jiu jitsu, I checked out every bjj book at the local library, and one of them happened to be eddies "jiu jitsu unleashed" book. I read the book along with the other gracie style bjj books and loved the techniques in jiu jitsu unleashed. It was until I begun formal instruction that I learned eddies style of jiu jitsu was "different" and non traditional, I just assumed jiu jitsu was jiu jitsu and I try to look at it in that way to this day with no limitations.
My old instructor was talking shit about Eddie and i had no idea who Eddie was at the time. So I went online and saw that he had a few books out. I went to Barnes and Noble and bought jiu jitsu unleashed. The rest is history
After few months of training someone was trying to put me in a twister. I asked what it was and the dude mentioned Eddie. YouTube the guy and never looked back since lol
An old best of ADCC dvd. There was a clip at the end of Eddie showing techniques. I've been a fan ever since.
Mastering the rubber guard!
ADCC 2003 I saw Eddie Put Royler away and wanted to know more. I bought his Twister DVD and just loved everything about Eddie and his attitude towards the game. That was in 2005............How Time flies. It will be 6th year in the system with Eddie and I am so grateful for everything he has done for me and our incredible 10th Planet JJ Family. One of my greatest achievements is representing such an amazing fighting system. I have made 8 trips to HQ since 2006 and the journey continues............what a wild ride
I've always loved no gi over gi. But I lost interest over time. I knew about 10th planet, but I thought 10th planet was all about rubber guards and twisters for a while so I wasn't interested. Then one day I started rabbit holing on youtube and I stumbled on a video of Eddie going over the truck series. Mind blown. I'm like, whoa! You can do all that? Started watching more and more videos. I was sold. Then I saw that we have a 10th planet affiliate in my city. Took me a while to get my schedule change. But I jumped and here I am. Still trying to balance my time management, but I'm here and it's a good first step. And I'm lucky to have a great teacher on top of everything.
used to fight alot at metal shows a buddy at one was a ufc and pride fan from like day one he got me to train and he turned me on to 10th planet first position and finish was arm crush from spiderweb. we went seperate ways and and train not to long ago and the guy who got me into 10th planet is a hater now. lol
Heard Eddie on UFC broadcast + YouTube! Now I'm a owner of all his books and pro member of this site! Now I'm a 10th planet Ronin! " that's how 10 do!"
Started training for mma in 2009 and i was the middle man in my group. All my partners were 135 or 145 except one. He was a 205 guy and was about 170 so we always ending up rolling together. He would tear through my guard cause he was so much bigger than me and i was complaining to a friend he tossed a mastering the rubber guard book to me and said you might like this. I started just using the lockdown and that was about as far as i got into it at first but in july 11 i picked up the book out of my closet and started reading it again and i realized i was only using a fraction of the information in the book. I didn't even know the sweeps from lockdown i was simply using it to control base so i didn't get submitted or smashed by guys bigger than me now im diving into everything i can find 10th planet. Went to my first seminar in Nov. at St Louis.
Ive always loved MMA. I got both UFC 1 & 2 on VHS the original ones when I was a youngin youngin. Growing up I hated the mma wannabe fans you know the fat guys in the tapout shirts and iceman mohawks walking around picking on everyone they can cause they got a tapout shirt. Then one day my brother calls me and says hey Im gonna train to fight in MMA. My first thought was "You gonna be one of those douchebag tapout guys"!? So naturally being his brother I wanted to corner him and train him and learn as much of the game as I can. He lives about 2 hours from me. He came down to visit on my 22nd b-day and was like dude check out this Jiu-Jitsu system its called 10th Planet. At the time I didnt know the difference between gi and no gi. So he showed me some escapes and we rolled and I got destroyed but It did feel natural like I shoulda been doing it a long long long time ago. So I looked deeper into it. Researched everything I could involving the system. Being a heavy gunji smoker I was amazed to see how eddie was open about smoking. After that I was hooked. It wasnt so much that eddie smoked too but the fact that he was comfortable enough with himself to show who he was. You know the this is who I am, this is me like it or not type deal. So I was hooked. I started learing every single thing I could involving not only the system but JIU-JITSU in general. Then I joined the forum and saw how tight this family was even though most of us have never even met in person. so almost 2 years later Im still hooked and Im so glad my brother showed me the system. It consumed my life!!!! I couldnt have asked for a better group of guys to share my thoughts with and ask technical questions to help me out. So I guess you can sum it up to FAMILY is what got me into the system!! Ari's videos also are what got me hooked. Ari is the man!!! Theres soo many awesome people in the system I hope I train with every single one of you before I kick that there bucket!!! Stay Awesome everyone!!!!!
Heard Joe mention how someone was doing RG wrong during an old UFC. Thought "Hmmm... Wonder what it's supposed to look like..."
When offered the choice of the RED pill versus the BLUE Pill, I chose the RED and I saw the TRUTH.
Thank You Eddie
Got abducted by Greys. They told me to connect with other Nibiru Warriors on earth. So I googled it. Found you guys. Learned that apparently Aliens love hand to hand combat. Now I am a grappler.
because zombies dont know jiu jitsu and if that shit really happens like in the movies i wanna be ready
I was on an MMA forum and guys were trashing rubber guard as being a stalling position, calling Eddie a fraud who sells "fake jiu jitsu". This peaked my curiosity. I searched youtube for everything I could find on rubber guard and Eddie Bravo. After seeing the techniques and hearing Eddie's point of view, it was obvious that he's a good guy with good intentions, lots of passion, and a phenomenal bag of tricks. I've been a big fan of 10th Planet ever since.
Submissions 101
Started training almost five years ago and wanted to compete in MMA. One of our instructors had the local title at 185 for a while and was (is) NASTY with the 10th Planet half guard game but because of his build/inflexibility he couldn't really get too much into the RG. I watched a video super early in my "career" where Eddie was talking about how if you want to fight MMA and you're not a wrestler you're gonna need to learn the bottom game because that's where you're gonna be fighting from and this made a ton of sense to me. I started stretching and working the Rubber Guard into my arsenal and now four years and some change later I've got my first fight booked for Feb. 11th(Vid will be posted)...Wish me luck fuckers!
Started training in 2002 in JKD and FMA, and Jiu jitsu in 2003. Saw King of the cage and loved the detail and strategy of the grappler.
Loved Eddies commentary, his views, his personality and his concepts.
Here in the UK at that time purple belts and Browns (Eddies grade at time)were a BIG DEAL so respected everything being said.
Now I try to convince everyone that is all Jiu jitsu and enjoy choking the shit out of people using the 'Gentle Art'
Submissions 101, my friend Nate(i introduced him to jitz and now he passed my ass up and is a purple), and Hightimes
Joe Rogan
In my opinion if you're interest is self defense or mma, eddies approach is one of the most realistic. especially when you're the small man who tends to be on bottom. I like his half guard concepts with the lockdown. I feel rubber guard is a lot more straight forward and practical than people make it out to be. I was working at OTM hawaii and got the mastering the rubber guard dvd along with the mastering the twister book. I just thought the theory and application were far more valid than the vast library of other jiujitsu instructionals we had. Everything feels attainable when you're inspired by someone who truly pushed his drive and creativity in his craft rather than reciting the dogma of tradition.
ps
I feel this system and approach is more aggressive in terms of pushing your opponents step by step from an advantageous position, to a bad position, into a set up and finally the submission.
Shellby Connelly & Gerald Strebendt.... I would watch this 122# bean pole girl tap out grown men and MMA fighters all based on her skill and flexabilty under the guidance of Gerald..also I figured i needed to get back into shape..And after meeting Eddie a few times in person, i can say he is a geniunely nice guy that is willing to teach and share his knowledge with anyone who will listen.
Mastering the Rubber guard intro was interesting. Just a down to earth guy like you or me teaching jiu jitsu. The way he layed out the jiu jitsu was so incredible. great shit.
These are great reads! Keep em coming!
I did it for the Money, Cash, H0#$, Money, Cash, H0#$.

Joking aside, when I saw Royce Grace submit people left and right in the early UFC's using something that was called a "guard," I was instantly fascinated. Mind you, I came from the old misconception of hand to hand combat that "movie fighting" was what real combat looked like. Movies like Enter the Dragon, Blood Sport, and even that short lived tv series "The Last Electric Knight" and countless old school Kung-Fu flicks gave me tons of entertainment, but in that process of entertaining myself, I misled myself to believe that THAT is how a person effectively defends himself. There was a point in my life that I believed that the epitome of hand to hand combat was the jumping, spinning split kick to the face that Van Damme ended pretty much every movie he ever did with. No joke. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu shattered every single pre-conception I had of hand to hand combat after that. There was a point in time where the population of the planet believed that the world was flat, and in saying otherwise, many were burned alive at the stake as heretics. Imagine how mind blowing it was when the population of the planet realized that they were wrong and that the world was round. Their entire reality was shattered to the truth. That's how I got interested jiu jitsu and have been a hard core fan ever since. It wasn't until discovering 10PJJ, and being at a point in my life where I could train, that I took the plunge and got on the mats. Despite injury, I have had no regrets. If anyone is "on the fence" about trying 10PJJ, just remember, life is short. People die prematurely every single minute of every single day around the world. In your last minutes of life, you're going to regret the things that you didn't do or try infinitely more than the things you did try.
Always been on the quest for knowledge but working 7 days a week limits what you can do. My only down time was at night between codes. Couldn't pull up YouTube at work so I spent a lot of time on the sub 101 site as well as tracking down Asian repostings of Eddie teaching clips. The rest as they say is history. You could have got me fired more than once there Ari but thanks all the same. You were also a lot of help my first year as an affiliate. Lots of practical advice that helped a lot.
myself, Pete H,Jeremy Fields,Randall,Sean Bollinger all trained together at a royce gracie school back in the day and i ended up moving on to train elsewhere but kept in touch with the guys and still rolled in Petes garage and one day Randall and Sean came to roll and opened my eyes to the 10th Planet system thnx guys!!!!
Coming out of high school I decided to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. First thing people in the field advised me was to put on some size and muscle (I'm 5'9, and weighed about a dollar fifty at age 18). I followed the norm and got a 24 hour douchebagness membership and got my swoll on. After about a year, my ADD was conflicting with my ability to lift heavy objects and put them back down over and over again. Now I've been an MMA fan since the days of Pride, but was always deterred from actually training because of the steep prices gyms were charging, (Average monthly membership is about $150.00 in So-Cal). I began by YouTubing techniques and practicing with friends, but didn't feel like I was getting anywhere. Finally I was blessed with a miracle when I came across an ad on Craigslist for Jiu-Jitsu! That is how I met my instructors Jeremy Fields and Sean Bollinger. Classes were taught Mon-Thurs. and sometimes ran for about 2-3 hours in a 6X12 foot puzzle mat garage. Day after day I got my ass handed to me and was humbled by skilled practitioners, until I learned the importance of patience and technique.
Since discovering the sport, my life has changed for the best. I am in love with Mixed Martial Arts in every aspect and I continue to fight and compete in tournaments with the inspiration and support of my 10th Planet family.
Team 10th Planet, fighting prides of Riverside FTW!!!
Was going through some major shit. Went like I had nothing to live for. Heard Joe Rogan mention Eddie Bravo a few times. Looked him up, got a copy of MTRG, and the past 2 yrs, I have completely fallen in love with jiujitsu and I live for it.
Read the intro to 'Jiu Jitsu Unleashed' and it made sense so... I went down to the Bombsquad and met Eddie and Einstein then started training with Eddie when they moved over to Legends.
Joe Friday said, "Hey, you wanna go to an Eddie Bravo seminar?" I said, "I don't know who that is. LET'S DO THIS."
Quick trip to Birmingham, AL and I'm hooked for life.
Thanks, Joe!
