Well I'm pretty big, my calves, thighs and hamstrings are pretty huge but i can still do the rubber guard even without an angle. I started stretching 1 month before i started jiu-jitsu and i was good to go. I still can't do the splits though

I knew it was possible. Thats enough for me to say "yes you can dummy"
I have Eddie's book, and I've been practicing the stretches for some months now.
If anything has seen the video where he talks about "developing the squeeze" and he hugs around his leg to show it.
Well....I can do full lotus now, but I have a lot of lower body strength.
My legs are tree trunks which could compete with any heavyweight kick boxers, so I can hardly if at all get my arms around one of my legs like that, in that rear naked position.
I have pretty strong grip though, but as a 6'3 200+ pound guy, I don't see why anyone who doesn't set their mind to it couldn't do rubber guard at a REASONABLE sized gut.
Here's a little secret though, come in close...closer......people who let themselves get too big to physically be able to do rubber guard, jj, or any sort of martial art effectively no matter how much time they put into it, probably don't have the will power to do the kind of reps it takes to get it down in the first place.
Though that's just my theory as a recovering fat guy.
You want a fucking cookie.
That Amir dude at HG looks pretty good sized and flexible. Whats his story?
I am 6'3 205lbs and I can lock up guys my height and weighing 285- it's hard to get to Chill Dog sometimes with them, but I can get mission control pretty regularly. I've yet to land Kung Fu due to their typically large traps, neck and head- I use this as my breather position with them- I know I am going to get passed, but to learn we have to put ourselves in dangerous positions. Love the RG.
At first when I started training I couldn't do it. At 6'3" 225 I just kept stretching and working the path on smaller guys until it started to improve. It still needs work but I can get to crackhead and clear the head, but I don't have the flexibility yet in my left leg to double bag. I guess the biggest thing isn't to abandon it because you have difficulties doing it at first. You've got to just stick to it And keep drilling it, but don't push the stretches to far I've seen guys tweak their knees and stuff. But yes big guys can do rubber guard.
