David I thought you train at Rochester... That's a pretty prestigious Nogi School With a bad ass teacher

That's a good viewpoint.
Ever since I read Eddies hypothetical question about Gi/No-GI I stopped using the collar and pants in my BJJ class. It just makes too much sense. Now i'm about to go exclusively no-gi (10th Planet Portland here I come! :)).
The most clear comparison for me is Greco Roman vs Judo. I think that illustrates it the best.
And ultimately you're using different muscles, in different ways!
Damn, I posted before thinking. My bad about the confusion.
Herzog is the MF'ing man. I'm not leaving 10th planet Rochester for another school. In fact, I'm not "leaving" at all. I'm moving to Boston and I can't find a no gi school there. That's what I meant. That being the case, I have it in my mind that I'll be visiting the nearest 10th planet (Hartford) on a monthly basis, and doing private lessons with Coach Herzog on a quarterly basis. That's what I hope anyway. So I'm not leaving the 10th planet family. I just have a bit more of an obstacle now.
But yeah, that means I'm gonna have to start learning gi BJJ cuz I'm not going to stop BJJ entirely. I've considered doing a hot box. We'll see.
If you're moving to the Boston area, you should look into my school, Best Way BJJ. My instructor is a 4th degree Black Belt under Ricardo Liborio and also trained under De La Riva up to his brown belt. Both of them come back for seminars, Liborio does one every year in December, and our team is an extraordinary group of guys.
We have a bunch of affiliate schools around the state, depending on where exactly you're moving to. If you're interested let me know!
There are a few reasons I don't train in the gi, but the main reason is that the gi is just too slow and boring for my tastes.
Even gi legend Draculino thinks today's gi-pant-tug-O-war is ridiculous and unrealistic.
