I kind of agree with Marcello. But only in the sense that i really don't know too many places that you can train just no-gi jiu jitsu 2+ times per day. Many just run a few no-gi classes per week. Which simply isn't enough mat time for the jj super athletes that are coming up that want to be rolling 2,3 maybe 4 times per day. Plus there are so many more comps out there, if you do gi too. So mat time would be the only reason i would agree with that statement.
For example (assuming i only have access to 3 no-gi classes per week) i would rather do 3 no-gi, and 3 gi classes per week, than say 3 no-gi and 3 strength and conditioning. Those extra 3 gi classes will help my overall game a little more than the 3 strength and conditioning etc classes would. And at least i enjoy the jiu jitsu. Much more than strength etc, which i find tedious.
Just my opinion. :-)

Sam you have a good poit there. I only train MMA so i have never rolled in a gi. I think that there is too many tecniques for me :D so i just stand up, roll no-gi and mix them up.

That's a reality if you don't have a 10P moon to train at. If you do, the Gi will never have to see the outside of your gym bag.

It's absolutely true. The gi makes your defense more technical, you can't spaz out of a given position or use athleticism to get out. It forces you to learn proper technique. DON'T EVER ARGUE WITH GRAPPLING JESUS!!

I hate the "you have to wear the gi to make your no gi better" BS that floats around. It bothers me. If I put 10,000 reps into a certain technique you better believe that technique is going to be tight and technically sound. It doesnt matter if I have the gi on or not, which for me is not. The logic doesnt make sense. If im practicing perfect technique then my game will be technical no gi.
I dont even know why I jump in on this topic anymore. I feel like im chasing my tail

Here's my thing, i've seen Gi matches at competitions and man are they slow sometimes. More often than not they're super technical but if I have a good handle on your Gi, it's gonna be tough to pass, sub, etc. I have heard many people say train the Gi, but train like you don't even have it on, and work your over/under hooks. To each his own.
