Pure TKD guys saying that they can beat BJJ guys because they don't know striking is rubbish. They watch UFC, see strikers do well, point out one guy who throws a spin kick or a high kick, and says that is proof. Issue is, TKD guys don't train how to stuff and counter take downs. You don't need a good take down at all, really. Just rush them and grab a leg, and they'll probably fall over. They don't train wrestling and sprawling or anything like that. The entire idea of TKD is "A short man's legs are still as long as a tall man's arms, therefore if I use kicks, it takes away the height advantage of a larger attacker, making it effective for the smaller man." No where in there is does it prepare someone for a guy who hunts for a take down. This dispute was settled years ago by things like the Gracie challenge. Do I think TKD has a place in mixed martial arts? Duh, I was a TKD guy for years. Do I think it's the king striking art that should be the center of your game, and can put the hurting on people? No. Very few moves from TKD are effective in MMA and real world defense. However, a few are, and are worth learning (Case in point, the spin kick).
