The only way I ever get subs early in 2010 is to tie them on on the cage in the thai clinch and pound on their stomach until they are almost done and then pull guard. The stupid thing is that I could have ended the fight numerous times before that. Looking forward for EA's.

yeah i just played ea last night and thought the stricking and submission concept is really cool i think that they pushed for it to be a lil too simple i love the story and training your fighter is alot more fun in ufc i never went for a submission just cause it was too hard even if i did beat there body i hated that you lost stats after not increasing them but i think the takedowns are much better for ufc and besides the submissions ufc has better groundwork

i play 2010 all the time. if u wanna win by submission trick the guy into wasting all his stamina. or get good at timing reversals. once you do that the ground game is actually very fun. i like the standup better in UFC as well it just seems more fast paced and realistic when u get good at it.

Yeah I have been able to get submissions and KO's right from the start in Undisputed 2010 its just got to be good timing. Although its nearly impossible to sub the comp on expert. when I put it on expert I have to stand and bang or take them down do a little GnP and stand up I connot get a sub to save my life. Im stoked to see and play EA in the next couple days.

I played the hell out of UFC 2010 and have been toying with the demo of EA's game. I like EA MMA, but I think the controls are kind of confused and counter-intuitive. Also, there's not as much freedom on the ground, no North/South, no switching positions back and forth. You basically follow the same path every time the fight goes to the ground, which is a shame because the animations are sweet. GnP is a bit weak, but the stand up striking is pretty sweet once you get the swing of it.

I can't be a judge as how i haven't played ea mma as of yet but if you want to sub on 2010 its easy once you have all your cards in the right order.
1st, find or make a char with a high sub off and has a submission(s) at lvl 3. then forget the shine tech unless your sub off is way higher than your opponents sub def. like cole said let your opponent waste some stamina. when you initiate a submission click and hold the right stick it will drain your stamina but power up a forced submission. the longer you hold it down the more powerful it will be but don't run yourself out of stamina or you fail but your opponent can defend the same way so you have to time it.
Oh...For an instant armbar, work the body so a suplex to side or judo hip will rock him and he won't be able to defend.

I finally completed the Career mode. This game is way more awesome then it seems. There is so much strategy to the gameplay that people are talking about Stat configurations like they were World of Warcraft character builds. For example, I made a Hong Man Choi fighter that has insane range and power but no speed. So using him requires heavy use of his teep kick to control the fight range and to use his height to his advantage.
In the career mode I would literally think about my next opponent's stats and train and plan against their stat configuration in a way that made each fight seem unique. I would just scan each stat trying to find a weakness figuring out if I was going to take them down with the double, the single, or from the clinch... and then what submission I should attack for once we hit the mat.

I will not support EA MMA because of the reason that EA doesn't have a UFC title, that being the following: Dana White wanted to make a game, but EA stated that "MMA isn't a real sport" and initially refused to produce it. The only reason they're making one now is for the success of THQ's UFC title. I love MMA and I refuse to give money to the company that is only interested in lining their pockets using material that they don't even view as a credible sport.
