Interesting point about how guys aren't really concerned with guards because of the way fights are scored. I hear them on the idea that guys should be more focused on sweeps. I've expressed that sentiment for years. And I do agree that RG should not be the only guard you have.
But I still believe that if guys would give it a chance, they'd see it is a better guard than closed guard with double wrist control. I also think its better than closed guard even while clinching. I don't get the resistance. Multiple times they admit it works yet they keep opining against it as if its nearly useless.
But there was a time when guys thought jabs were useless in MMA. And even Rogan said that you can't have good head movement in MMA. Until Anderson, people thought the front snap kick was dead now they all use it. Just give it time. Eventually people started jabbing, using head movement, and throwing snap kicks. Little by little guys will mix RG into their game.
I am just waiting till Vinny tap Phil Davis with that shit. Then we'll see what is effective. Haters.

Lets look at this realistically, how long has BJJ been going? Since the 1930's or so. It has been refined day in and day out since mostly by the Gracie's until 1993 then it exploded. How many bjj schools all over the world refine their technique day in, day out? How many BJJ schools are there in your state alone? How many BJJ Black Belts are teaching in your state/ country? How long have the top grapplers in the world been practicing it? Refining it every day?
How long has the 10th Planet been around? How many 10thpjj schools are there worldwide? How many are in your state/ country? How many 10thpjj black belts are there in the ENTIRE WORLD? How long have all of these guys had to refine this new system? 10th Planet is still in its infancy!!!!
BJJ is an incredibly effective grappling art but what happened when Sakuraba faced the Gracie's? He beat them with catch wrestling!!! Sakuraba devoted time and put in the reps. Guess what? Other styles can be effective too. Thai boxers say karate doesn't work in the octagon but Machida put in the time and put in the reps!!!
BJJ is amazing and I love it but it's not the be all and end all.
