Why do people think 10th Planet is different from BJJ?

Kind of two different sports but share many of the same ideas-leverage, control, position, strategy.
Like flag football and tackle football, are kinda the same. You catch footballs and make touchdowns. Different sports that use the same core principles.

In the end, do the one the makes you happy. Do both if it tickles your fancy. But by all means don't let others dictate your progression, in anything.

My take.

It's all grappling (Jiu Jitsu being an aspect). BJJ and 10P are different styles of Jiu Jitsu with philosophical differences. 10P arose from the observation of traditional BJJ (Gi Jiu Jitsu) in MMA (getting hit too much, not controlling distance enough, etc). The purpose of 10P was to develop a style of Jiu Jitsu specifically for MMA.

10P has a few philosophical differences, first, 10P sees or "believes" that there are definite differences between GI, NO GI and MMA "grips". It is from this insight that 10P bases it's techniques and training philosophy (Train No GI, develop clinch).

10P puts major emphases on developing and training with MMA effective grips in mind. This translates into a heavy clinching style, fighting and moving from within the clinch to avoid being hit (This is why the rubber guard was developed, trying to make a more effective guard for MMA).

10P is open to new ideas, continuously developing, incorporating or removing techniques based upon the latest developments in the evolving sport of MMA. 10P utilizes "currently" unorthodox techniques, positions -and names :).

I think the problem is some pro-gi people need to stop being dicks (and its not as many as you think) , and some pro-no-gi people need to stop being so sensitive

There is a huge difference for me. Most of which is listed above but also where we train all the grappling competitions are geared toward BJJ and implement IBJJF rules which means we can't lockdown, Twister, Bicep cutters, calf cranks and loads of other sweet moves. Still we're going to enter and still beat them all with their own rules ;D 10P4L!!!!!

There is a fine line between the two, in my opinion as long as your training Jiu-Jitsu what does it matter. I don't think 10th planet or traditional BJJ is a key to success in grappling in MMA. The other range is, wrestling/judo. Jacare proved that the weekend. Rhonda proves it on a regular basis. Vinny proved it the other week with Davies.
