True story. I still hit stuff that I forgot I knew. It just comes back to me....and this is after a year lay off.

Don't you love it when you explain a move and talk about an option you could possibly have and everybody drills the option instead of what you really wanted to them to work? Everyday teaching is a learning experience.
North south choke!! I use it all the time, can't teach it, and have people just get it. Way to many "feely" details that I think can only be learned thru personal trial and error.
There are steps brotha, just like every other technique.
1)Turn their chin away (regardless of how you transition to it).
2)Your shoulder to their chest, then scoot back, pushing off the hip with your free hand towards their head so the arm slides down around the neck.
3) Gable grip with the arm around the neck facing palm down.
4)The same arm pinches the elbow in tight towards your own ribs.
5)The same arm shoulder now drops down to the mat (think paper cutter) towards the gable grip.
6)Head to the mat, breath and squeeze.
7)Run around in victory!
Thanks Zog, That is almost word for word my instruction. I have omitted step #7, maybe that is why nobody gets it. Can't say I have ever had a single person start using NS because of me. I just quit trying to teach it. Sooo much other stuff to focus on.
To me the key detail in the Japanese Necktie relates to the hand position. People are always attempting to move their hands into the right place and that's where it falls apart. They loosen their grip by trying to get to the choke.
Once the vice grip is in place, don't attempt to reposition your hands at all. Your hands will rotate to the right spot due to your body falling to the side. That's the way to keep the head clinched into the right position.
