Awesome question!
I was pondering this same question a couple years back, and after some deep thinking, I came up with this:
"Jiu jitsu is honor, learning, teaching, sharing, open-mindedness, humility, perseverance, cleansing, technique, focus, listening, acknowledgement, willingness, balance, understanding, knowledge, friendship, trust, heart, communication, health and nutrition, pain and suffering, and evolution.
As I sit back and ponder on these words that describe jiu jitsu,
I realize that jiu jitsu is life."
Now this is what jiu jitsu is for me... What it means to you may be way different. Give 2 people a paintbrush and tell them to create a masterpiece, and you'll find that they each created a piece of art based on their own ideals, experiences, and beliefs.
"Push/Pull
Ability to mantain and break posture
Being able to create and eliminate space
Effiency of motion, conservation of energy, composure
Utilizing mechanical advantages for maximum output with minimum effort.
Grips"
I'm just a noob but there are some big strategic ideas that I think are worth adding in addition to the physical aspects; ideas that transcend BJJ. There's simply no way in my mind that these cannot be important. Attempting to summarize Musashi here without speaking beyond my rank.
Initiative (Keep it if you have it, Forestall if you don't)
Utility (Do what works, abandon what doesn't, keep an open mind)
Trade up (Flow from advantage to advantage, always gaining more advantages in the transition than you are losing)
Intent (Mask yours, read his)
Become the Enemy (The Commander Knows His Troops)

Sorry if I'm speaking out of turn: I love strategy and I geek out at times.
