I believe in one of the MTS episodes you can see a quick clip of Renato demonstrating a belt choke on someone...so it must work. I forget which exact episode though one of the earlier ones.

WTF's a Gi?
Your question says that you are 'focused' on no-gi. If you are only only doing no-gi, then don't bother, but if you are doing gi, you'd better learn them. If someone is untucking your gi or untucking theirs and you don't know what is going on, you are about to by brought into a world of hurt.
Oh, and for you non-believers: http://www.submissions101.com/videos...tailed/26.html
Do you have to start with the belt tied? Just curious
"Yes Nabil, yanking and pulling is better for your clinching and squeezing than clinching and squeezing" its an obvious ;)
Thats what I tell all my buddies that do Gi, I have only rolled in a gi a handfull of times just so I can get an extra roll in. I still dont see the scense of learning certain things in the gi especially if your main goal is MMA or no gi Jits. I just wanted people's thoughts behind it and the reason they beleive you should be learning gi chokes when you have other focuses you can work on the would benefit your mma or no gi game.
and what's up Nabeel, damn there's 2 of us ;)
I rarely roll with a gi but when I do I land gi and sleeve chokes everytime I do, I've hit Ari's belt choke, I've finished a gogo with my pant cuff, I've pulled the gi over a guy's head to sweep him hockey style lol it makes offense SO much easier. If you work your 10thPjj game in a gi just stop and look around for chokes. A lot of the time, since rg control is so much tighter, you can just grab cloth and push it up into his neck getting the choke.
