They are legal at black belt. I like the barataplata a little more than slicers, because I like how easy it is to sweep with the barataplata as well, and finishing from the top usually has more leverage. Plus if you miss you're on top. But slicers have also never been my thing. I guess I should try them more.
I definitely do. Honestly I play very little closed guard, and when I do I'm usually looking to open and sweep. If I do anything from closed submission wise it's either a hip bump to guillotine or the occasional pop triangle or baratplata. Getting that leg to the other side of their head is definitely the hardest part. I wish I could help more. I just try to use the free hand to keep their arm away as I swing the leg over. Once the leg is over it's basically a wrap though, and the tap is almost a guarantee. I don't know about the Duda, at least not by that name. I'll have to look it up.
Damn I wanted to post the whole match but I guess it's off youtube now
I have the subscription, but can't find the archives, maybe it wasn't uploaded yet. As a matter of fact, I found out that I had a subscription when I logged to the website this weekend! I logged in for the 1st time to watch Polaris, and I thought I was buying a one-off PPV, but apparently I've been paying monthly since then! Holy s... gonna have a look further in the website to check if they have good content
Man you missed the big tiff about this over in other forums. Yeah, you're booked $20/month. Let us know how you like it. I never wanna be one of the first testers, but I am tempted, especially with Polaris on there. If they get EBI, LOL, forget it, i'm there.
Just noting, I wasn't saying I don't like baratoplata. It's obviously legit from a triangle like Caio has shown. I just haven't had much success going straight to barato from full guard.
About Flograppling. I have a subscription there. They have a ton of great content for the $20. The problem is their video organization really needs some work. The NoGi IBJJF videos for example are just all laid out together on one video page. So that's a few hundred videos all with the same title. Their blogposts help guide you a little bit to which videos to watch for the main matches, but yea it needs some work. I signed up this month because I knew I was going to at least be getting both the NoGi worlds and the Berkut competition (which is stacked). But I will likely just end it at the end of the month and have gotten plenty for my $20 worth.
I'm actually watching all the adult black belt matches over again and that's been pretty insightful. Been writing down some stats for each match. Pretty interesting.
For sure it's a solid finish from a popped triangle, just hard to get straight from full guard. I'll play with it some more though if you've had success. I've felt like there's something there, but I also hate that when it doesn't work I've completely lost full guard.
And here's a vid on duda to barato - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNlNA20iGRw
I learned this in a private I took with Sean Bollinger a couple years ago and just recently added back into my game and just showed it in a class I taught while he was our of town. I find the highest success getting it from the mount.
Ben Eddy, I like to use Rubber Guard failed zombie to Duda/ or Crackhead failed Zombie to Duda. Now instead of rolling on top for the Duda finish, I just rest my hooked hand on top of my thigh and get my foot on his hip. Under hook his free arm if possible. Also, fun to set up from mount and failed darce attempts.
To hit the barataplata from closed guard you need to double it with another attack, because if you don't the opponent will react as you mention and block your far leg from swinging over. So, the easiest barataplata setup is to simply threaten any kind of closed guard armbar, which will cause your opponent to either shrink and stack or posture and pull out-- either way your opponent will concede the far leg swinging over (you can even fake like you're going to shoot a triangle to further sell this) and will likely fold the other arm in to protect, which perfectly sets up the barata. The other simple barataplata set up is a trap off a basic overhook omoplata-- as you get ready to lock the omo you loosen the control on your opponent's wrist and 'allow' him to fold his arm in to deny the omoplata, which traps him in perfect position for the barata if you switch your leg position.
Ok cool, well I will start playing with it a bit more then.
I want it to work because there are some other cool options off duda. Kevin Berbrich and I came up with this choke that's an extra option if you're under their chin with your mission control arm when you go for duda/barata. https://www.instagram.com/p/qPucIyQF...shadamoustache
