MAC
<---life long Mac user. I actually find it easier to use than windows. Ubuntu's Linux is also a nice option (almost perfect).
Mac
Linux haters gonna hate. :)

I lol'd. Seriously though, Mac's OS hardware isn't any faster than the same thing running to Windows. It just costs more. That being said, I used XP as an example because that is what a LOT of stuff still runs best compatability wise with. 7 is a lot better than XP, but updates from non-Windows related things, namely games, comes slower to update to new models of any OS. Sadly, a lot of them will NEVER work with Mac OS (thus why many Mac users keep XP on their computers). But, if you want to pay a few hundred dollars more because OMG SO SHINY, that is your choice.
Do the obvious thing: Compare the models side-by-side, see if their is any software you want that will run on one but not the other, and if they can both do it, it comes down to price. Pretty simple amirite? I'll be the first to admit Apple has some great things going, and there are something Macs do better (namely music editing software), but seriously, check the software. If it has a better or more up-to-date version exclusively for one computer, then yea, get that. If not, it falls on price, and Windows will win the majority of the time there.
You a goofball if you run XP on OSX. Unless you have a PC game you are playing. Otherwise it like putting bad spark plugs in a Lamborghini. I have both, Macs are just smarter. The programming is cleaner, less bugs, much less prone to viruses. comes bundled with iMovie, which is perfect for most. Definitely more expensive, but I think in the long term, it's the way to go.
My father used to get Dell's all the time. After a year or so, I'd have to reformat the hard drive and back up all his stuff, because the computer would just get jammed up. I made him get an iMac 3-4 years ago. and he hasn't had an issue.
So you lol'ed, then said the same thing I said basically?! Macs have better software. This alone makes Windows a non-choice.
Your bog standard Macbook Pro has 4gb of 1066MHz DDR3 RAM and a 2.4ghz Processor. You get the same spec with everything on a laptop and it will still cost roughly the same amount. Im talking loadup times (which are ridiculously faster), screen quality, trackpad the way it works, etc. Maybe you'll pay a hundred dollars more but to me, that's worth it for the quality of product you are receiving. Not everybody can build a laptop from scratch that would match the specs.
Doesn't really matter anyway, it's a case of you liking PC's and the rest of us liking Macs. For video editing, graphic design, audio editing, OS updates, OS features, OS LOOK, workflow programs, user friendly interface, etc, etc: the Mac is better. Therefore, the OP's question is answered.
Get a Mac, it's better.
I don't understand how the mac's are better for video editing came about. It is all about hardware. An equally specced Mac will edit, transfer, share, convert video at the same quality and speed as a PC and vise versa. The difference comes to price, taste and cool factor. For example in my college there are bunch of people who buy mac's because they think owning a mac is cool and brings a notch above the regular facebook logging, email checking, youtube watching home user (it does not). For all purposes almost always a Macintosh will cost you more money for the same hardware and it will be less customizable or upgradable, although they are getting better about that. For above reasons I am a PC user, but as I said earlier the most important factors are size of wallet and taste.
PS: I have a virtual machine that I set up in my Pc that runs Snowleopard ( Macintosh operating system) so technically I also own a mac :).
If Steve jobs would have read this he would have a heart attack.
