In my opinion jeet kune do is not a martial art at all... you could teach the concepts but it is not a martial art more so a philosiphy
Sad thing is that I used to train Jeet Kune Do with a former student of his but he never taught anything that Bruce hadn't been teaching back in the day. Missed the point entirely but would bitch all day about how no one honored him or taught JKD right...sigh.
Here is a clip from one of his films...

I think Jon Jones stylistically falls under what Bruce Lee would've considered a great JKD fighter. Amazing physical attributes, adaptable to any situation, and unpredicatable yet solid with the follow-through on his techniques. When I saw Bones throwing those little side kicks to the leg during the Shogun fight, it started reminding me of Bruce Lee's philosophy with kicks as he realized the importance of kicking the legs although that wasn't a feature of his original classically trained style. The spinning elbows and the knee-bar attempt with a back-hand thrown in there was very fast, fun, and functional which always appealed to me about the JKD approach to combat. Be like water my friend. It's like a finger pointing at the moon, don't focus on the finger or you will miss all the heavenly gloooory. ;)
JKD was the OG MMA
Fuck yeah, acronyms!
Amazing that you guys get it,but so few actual JKD guys do. Thumbs up guys!

Emir, you're a little late to the party. Nelson, Compella and a bunch of others of us have started and participated in numerous threads.
Strictly speaking, JKD isn't a "style" although some practitioners try to make it so by saying they're "original school", "Chinatown School", "Kali Academy school", etc. It's about the individual and finding what works for you. Having said that, Si Jo Lee believed there were certain fundamentals you absolutely needed to master: footwork, defense, combination striking, speed, power, grappling, striking and above all CONDITIONING. That's what really loses or wins a fight. Si Jo understood that not only did you need "cardio", but your body needed to be able to withstand the rigors of combat. In other words, you couldn't be soft and had to be able to handle some punishment. He understood you would get hit at some point and how you handle that is important. Also, conditionig of the mind and spirit to persevere.
I agree with Compella that Jones is a good example, but GSP is the best so far. His JKD is awesome in his example.
Frankie Edgar, Jon Jones, and gsp are all what i call 3rd generation mma fighters. The first generation was only fighting with one style. The second was coming in with a backround of 1 fighting art and learning the rest but your strength was still the backround u started in and 3rd generation of fighters will be/is starting off in the sport and learning all arts and being verry good in all aspects. Thats why i think Frankie Edgar, Jon Jones, and gsp are all great examples of what bruce would of wanted in a good fighter especially Jon Jones.
