Werdum blames Overeem for Strikeforce farce

Well if Werdum hurt his knee in the second round how does he explain his ridiculous performance in the 1st? It was just embarassing to watch and I've lost alot of respect for Fabricio. Especially when he was begging and pleading with Overeem to come into his guard. Referee should have been stricter with him and. After a couple of easily stuffed take downs Werdum should of just stood and traded with him in my opinion. Even if he got knocked out he would have come out with more credibility then he has got now. At least that's how I see it.

Unfortunetly the Reem dosen't get out of this either. For a K1 champion with a win over Badr Hari I was suprised how often Werdum could beat him to the punch. If I was to come up with an excuse I could say Werdums constant collapsing to the ground threw Allastair off his rhythem and obviously you can't throw punches in MMA the same way you can in K1. Still I would have expected more from him. Couldn't believe how gassed he was in the post fight interview.

Disapointed in both fighters but more so Werdum. Hoping Overeem will put on a better performance against Bigfoot.

If all fights started with both fighters laying on their backs then I would agree with you. Under Unified MMA rules the ground is an unnaturally safer position than in real life due to the banning of soccer kicks and head stomps. You can't allow fighters to exploit the rules and stall the match through this over site in the rules.

The fight game goes where it goes. If it goes to the ground that is where you fight. If you don't want to be there, you get up. It is the ground fighter's responsibility to TAKE it to the ground and KEEP it there. Matchups make fights. This was a horrible matchup (much like Mia vs Silva).
If the Jitz guys want to have a jitz fight they should sign up for NAGA or GQ, otherwise, polishing up their wrestling/striking to the point that their opponent has no choice but to "go where the fight goes" would be a much wiser action than blaming the other fighter for not playing their game.

With a strong overhook and head control this would be a non issue. I thought it was kinda funny when Werdum begged Reem to get in his guard, but if he really wanted it he should of offered side control.

maybe if werdum had wrestling skills he could have took the fight to the ground or at least stand with him for a bit to close the distance and pull something off there. Maia did the same thing when he fought Anderson silva and he wanted no part in it. Its never a stupid choice to not jump into someones guard I dont understand why a fighter would expect their opponent to do that (though of course some fighters do jump into guards for some reason).

Flopping on your back begging for Overeem to make the same mistake Fedor did was not the best strategy. If you wanna take the fight to the ground you must TAKE it there.

Mixed Marshal Arts is a sport for all types of fighters. Werdum beat Alistair standing, he tried taking the fight to the ground and Alistair ran. The ref won that fight for Alistair. The only thing Alistair did was trip him a few times, and lay on him for a little while. A guy should not be penalized for using his style to try and win a fight. I would think you Jiu Jitsu guys could appericiate pulling guard and trying to bring a K1 champ into a ground fight.

It was how he pulled guard. Alistair didnt have any gi grips for Werdum to control so he couldnt force the the game plan. If I was in someones guard and all I had to do was back out to get out I would too. Especially a blackbelts guard.

If falling onto your ass every time you get hit with a strike is a "style" then clearly MMA is not a sport for all styles since that strategy is always a losing one.

Speaking of styles, I don't think I've ever seen a Gracie just fall like that in a pro fight and those guys arguably pure JiuJitsu artists. JiuJitsu has take downs, Werdum doesn't.

Looking at the fight from every angle besides Alistair running, or Werdum but flopping. Who won the fight?
