Ive just gone from 107Kg down to 96.5 Kg in 7 weeks for 2 BJJ comps in Aussie, its ok if your an a weight class but as soon as your in open weight FUCK THAT!
I'll never cut again. For starters, I'm not experienced enough at it to be good at it and the last time I cut just a *little* it completely ruined me. I was in awesome shape for the last comp I did, but my weight wasn't there. Like a dumbass I cut 3lbs too quickly too close to comp and it destroyed my cardio. I gassed in about 8 seconds. I'll never, ever cut again and if I DO it will be under strict supervision. I shoulda just let the weight go and I would have been fine.
Dropping weight is different for everybody. I know i walk around at 160 to 165 but i fight at 145 for MMA and 149& under for QG and NAGA. I think its important when you are in a tournament/fight you need to be at the right weight. Just because I could make 135lbs doesnt mean I should be fighting at that weight. You need to find what your body functions the best at and stay at that weight. Eat clean, strength training, cardio and dont drop more than three pounds the day before if your body is not used to it. Think of it like a high end sports car, you spend thousands of days on performance parts, then pay a teeenager in a high school shop class too install them and when your car blows up you wonder way.
I see no problem with cutting weight. If you do it right it can only benefit you.
