I've been in the same position as you Scott. I've got one big student 6'4" 315 who naturally falls into the position when I lock him down. I'd have to say Coach Zog's fat whip and Einstein's no hand whip helped me the most. Btw, I teach angry rainbow just to hear my guys shouting it during a comp lmfao!
there is a calf crank you can try. if your lock isnt giving them some pain, your outside leg/ instead of hooking your inside the guard leg, turn your foot back out and hook his calf/ankle. so youre really wrapping that leg, then use your inside leg and push on your other heel like a loco platta but on his leg. It hurts like hell if done right and some dudes will give up position just to get you to stop, and some will just tap if they havent felt it before.
Great video Herzog, thanks for sharing. You're a great teacher.
If I can ask, what's your opinion on using the "fat whip" as your standard start to a sweep chain? I know that the electric chair is more complicated than old school, but if I drilled the hell out of it, would it be a good go to move instead?
Then again, if old school is working, I probably shouldn't mess with the formula.
