Think if I rest completely between now and October 18 (when I leave for HQ), I will be healed enough to roll pretty hard when I get to LA?

Well depends on if u broke your rib or just bruised them. Did u go to the Dr.? If you just bruised them you might be able to roll by the 18th. If they are broke you might do more damage to yourself by rolling to soon. I know i wasn't able to hardly anything even after 3 weeks. Good luck.
Rib injuries are prob the worst cause its hard to baby the injury. Even breathing affects it.
Are you icing the shit out of it?
My side hurts now, I did it last year, re-did it in LA this year, and now its back again! Unfortunately its a naggling injury that I've been told won't go away unless I take months off. Not happening!
i recently went thru some rib & chest tear injury a few weeks ago, some newby walk ins flopped on me in a scarf hold position actually two overweight guys , i continued to roll but it got worse , i dont think any ribs were broken , i didnt see any bruises or nothing but alot of pain , then when lifting weights i thought i was ok to bench press i did ok , then the following week while benching my chest on one side hurt bad , so it that point i guess i got the chest tear again ...now im feeling better , rolled lightly and took a week off training , been taking a coral calcium supplement with magnesium and vitamin d .
If it popped the doc supposedly has some med/vitamin/steriod not sure to help heal faster but you will have to rest for sure. good luck.
that sucks dude, first the knee now this. rest up.
Icing is actually only helpful at the time of the injury. Icing post injury only shunts the blood vessels and prevents proper circulation where good oxygenated blood can nourish the injured tissue. As a rule I only ice something within the first 30 min of injury. After that you are doing more harm than good.
