Im not sure if there is a definite answer to this. I think it just depends on the person. I guess the best way to answer this question would be to take a step back and ask yourself "In what specific areas would strength be beneficial in jiujitsu?"..
When you break it down to each individual technique, i think the point of jiujitsu is to allow the smaller/weaker opponent, to perform any of these moves on a stronger opponent. But at the same time, I think we can all agree that there ARE certain times that strength might be beneficial. (trying to posture up when someone is pulling down on you)
So like most people said, I dont think its REQUIRED to be great.. But if you plan on competing in high level tournaments, eventually its going to come into play.. Just depends what your goals are I suppose
Different flavor. Just a video that was cool and to showcase what my guys go through on the reggie. I think bboy, yoga, caperio(Spelling),parkour, barstarr-esq workouts, all have weight as well but these are not organized with athletic progression like crossfit. But i Love all that shit. Also I do not program myself 100% of the time. A colleague of mine programs my conditioning. Everyone needs an expert/specialist to take them to the next level.
Cool, No Ocean though in Chicago :(
One of the main reasons I push so hard. I listen to those who have lived trough the Fire. Knowing that I will not be misled. Also knowing that My guys are the face of 10th Planet in Chicago. We need to be stronger, faster, smarter, more skillful, more humble, tougher, better ambassadors, and have nastier ears than the other schools. This continued drive and amazing team is what has allowed us to accomplish so in such a short time. To be a contender in a major market with schools that are lead by black belts that have been black belts before we knew what jj was.
If complete control over your body, hips, and balance during insanely fast transitions isn't athletic progression, what is?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5eBo2Mrp18
