the tension!
Listen, ScottRay, Brian Debes is one of the best up and coming RG practitioners I have seen, I don't imagine he is bailing on the front path(Gogo>straight jacket>specialK) to jiu claw if his omaplata isn't tight. Just chill on the instructions. I have no doubt Brian is dropping mad knowledge in Texas, but try it out if you don't like it don't use it brah.
Thanks for the props Mike :) To be honest with you, I take full responsibility for Scott’s bashing this move (but play nice please :) )… because I can’t hit it for anything on anyone good. I tried it with the leg triangle Friday and almost everyone (Scott included) took it completely away. I mean why would any of my training partners believe in it when I can hit most things in the rubberguard and can’t hit this for crud? I’m whatever rank is below white belt on this move though so I’m open to the possibility I’m doing something stupid on it. Have you hit this Mike?
And thank you Logan for your interest and contributions to the system and apologies if I had any part in making anyone upset. You have the right mindset which is to be open to new things. Without that, all of the rubber guard looks kinda crazy ;)
P.S. Your right Mike, I play the front path all day. I have half a dozen invisible crocks in competition in the last year as well if those count :)
That’s a great idea!!! If you like, you could always try and help a few of your partners as it will only help you in return. I’d say (and this is just a suggestion) grab a training partner during an open mat, put him in it (without squeezing) and tell him to push the gogo-ing leg toward your head just enough to move it off the artery. Take it easy at first and then resist a bit. Then resist completely and then let him try and defend when you catch it rolling. If he defends it, then that just accelerates your progression, if he can’t, then either he doesn’t get what I’m saying over the net or you have a way of dealing with it I don’t understand over the net. Either way, hope that helps and have fun with your training.
P.S. Feel free not to do this if you don’t want, they’ll probably figure something out eventually if it’s there anyway :) just trying to help.
I love that idea. I'm definitely going to give that a shot. Thanks!
So without triangling the legs does that take away some defense or is it still the same issue? I havent been able to try this out yet so I dont know the holes yet
hey i had a bit of a go tonight with your logeoplata, i didnt really feel like the triangling my legs helped but i liked using my knee to push away the arm and getting the gable grip right away was nice. i used to reach over with my zombie arm and grab my foot but i think going for the gable grip is quicker and tighter i think. also gives more time to get the foot under the chin.
i dunno if thats just old news for others but im gunna work on it. my arms are too short for the frodoplata but i enjoyed this. thanks for the vid mate.
Yesterday we attended a gathering of some of the BJJ kids in the Houston and surrounding area. Cora's first match, I was watching from far away, I saw her pull guard on this kid, then went into her rubber guard mode. Right away I see her go for the Gogoplata, the other kid stuffed it. Then Cora dig under her leg and hit the Frodoplata!!!! TAP OUT!!! The kid looked shock, Cora ran to me and said "Daddy, that frodoplata really work!!" She was all excited. I don't know about the adult, but for the kids, I think it will work all the time. Especially when they have never been in one.
I'm glad that you both (Cora and Isaac) are having success with variations of this technique! Looks like Brian and his guys have a good way of stopping it but it's still working for me pretty well! It never hurts to have an extra technique in your bag of tricks as nothing works 100% of the time! Thanks for giving it a shot y'all!
Tried it out an wasn't really digging it. I can see what Brian was saying. If its working for you awesome though.
Im goin straight jacket all day. Always plan for the best possible defense, and you can be sure that savy guys, who wanna stay alive more than anything, are gonna bring that free hand into the party(Rener reference). If he is controlling my foot, I prefer to break his and regain my control.
I completely get the Indiana necktie reference. As soon as someone says they are catchin something, my first question is,"On who?". The response is usually "blues and some purples." Then my next is "Comp vids?". To which the response is "I'll try to get some."
I think it should be kind of an unwritten rule. Multiple comp vids, then name. I mean no offense to anybody.
but ive been doing jiu jitsu for 3 months now! i have this move where i get an overhook on their little finger and their big toe and then i use it to smash rubber guard. i tapped a new guy in my gym out with it. i dont compete so i wont be able to show you but i can show you a video of me doing it on a friend in my garage in slow motion with no resistance and then criticise everyone that disagrees with me
...
I found I wanted to use my right foot to push on the bicep like a spider guard and regain the traditional gogo.
^ valid option made possible because he can't roll. This is a huge benefit to this position/sub. Just like the ic will tap some, but control the shit out of all. He's pretty stuck. He can still push the foot over his head and escape. Hard but doable.
That's why I thread over my foot and under his armpit and s grip around his shoulder. The straight jacket can be a huge battle too, and I like to wear them our in this grip first. Plus it eliminates the duck out.
TTT for having two comp wins via Logeoplata!
Nice stuff!
Mario: you got that rash guard in kids size?? that is dope man.
So many ways to choke someone. I dig it man. I see myself getting this.
Remember when people thought what became known as the gogo clinch probably wouldn’t work on a large scale? Good times! I’m loving seeing so many people killing it with subs from the gogo clinch!
you and frode came up with some crucial RG material. Got any new comp footage with it?
I wish! I’ve been out of competing for about a year with back and knee issues and before that my leg locks were carrying me through the competitions I entered. Hopefully will get back into the swing of competing soon. I’m just excited to see how much success others are having!
Sorry, I was watching this and the Frodoplata but can't seem to see how this differs from gogoclinch of Jeremiah Vance. The entry transition is different I see but the finishing looks same. I'm usually flawless at tiny details but this eludes me. Anyone with any reason as to how this is different?
