I don't think an official renaming is necessary. If that's how you wanna get down, do that. Personally, while have have no problem teaching my kids that crackheads exist, I wouldn't be too keen on it becoming part of her daily vocab. Cuz here's the thing, anything that she can get in trouble in school for saying, I don't want her repeating just yet. I wouldn't want her to learn hooker control either.
But we all parent differently. My route would be to teach her the original, come up with a substitute just for us and explain that, as usual, some words are only for grown folk.
Ok I have asked and nobody who "understands" or agrees or can "see his point" or Ric himself has tried to explain it so I'm going to just say its bullshit, there is absolutely nothing un kid friendly about the term crackhead. If you want to have a rational discussion about some of the other names that's one thing but I will disagree about changing those too. I don't have a problem breaking down the realities of life to my children.
Reading is fundamental. LOL. I explained. Any word that can get my kid in trouble in school is not a word that I'd like her repeating just yet.
Not sure why people are getting so annoyed about it. Call it whatever you want. Teach your kids to curse if you want. But some people do have a preference. That's the beauty of America. I don't think it needs an official renaming, but I think it's fine to have an alternative for your own kids or a kids program you run. In fact, I do recall one of the moon heads mentioning that he does rename some moves for his kids program so it's not like this is some horribly far fetched absolutely bullshit idea. Haha. You'd swear 10thP were a religion or something.
just want to say Ric has always seemed like a cool guy and makes some really good post.
I have heard Eddie say some less PC things than Crackhead control imho. :) On my first day at HQ we had a long conversation about Snatching the arm for Twister from Truck. "Most you boys never seen a snatch this good."
This kind of talk is probably why I am part of 10 P.
thats disgusting, sexist, pot smoking animal corrupting our youth.
Somewhere in the ocean the Kraken is crying. Always being opressed.
I love how so many jump on Eddie's balls and explain exactly what he's feeling and how he believes lol. To be quite honest, I've seen a rather substantial change in Eddie since the birth of his son. In Decatur he showed us his wallpaper and talked about how everything is about his boy now, he's his life. Since then, I've seen him censor himself at numerous seminars and training camps. He used some different names for previously named techs as well as toning down talk about the herb whenever kids were in attendance.
I did miss your post and understand not wanting certain words to enter your children's vocabulary I employ the same policy. ...and of course I agree people can call the techniques whatever they want and understand moon instructors changing the vocabulary for there kids classes to not offended parents and protect there business. But none of that explains how the word crackhead is offensive and if any of my kids 12, 8 and 5 none of which has ever had not one single disciplinary situation at school ever did get in trouble for using the term crackhead in school I wouldn't have a problem explaining life to school authorities either.
Agree 100% great contributor to the forum I just don't want Eddie to be discouraged from coming up with the colorful and entertaining vocabulary. I also agree with Brandon about not wanting the pussification of America slipping into jiu jitsu. I used one of Zogs analogies to describe a technique In a class full of grown men not even any ladies present and a few guys laughed and the coach acknowledged that it was an effective analogy but inappropriate. The term was "making babies"
...give me a break how is that inappropriate in a room full of grown men learning moves that can kill?
Of course, I do the same thing with our kids programs as well, I feels its a parents job to educate their kids on wonderful world of sex and drugs. However in my adult classes its NHB, like Jon said we are in the bussiness of teaching destruction, if you can't handle a little crackhead control, retard control or making babies get the fuck out I don't have time for your sensitivity. When it comes down to the reality of combat sports and self defense if words hurt you, you don't stand a chance of surving a real life violent encounter.
Oh and Ric knows I have nothing but love him. Thats why I have no issue telling him to man up or I'll fill your kraken. ;)
Gotcha. Well, I'm currently living in socialist/liberal Massachusetts where political correctness is gospel to people and public school teachers teach that guns aren't real. SMH. I mean, even my daughter's mom gets antsy when I tell my daughter that guns aren't bad. Crackhead being a direct reference to drug addiction is a taboo word in my kid's school.
In the end, really, context is key.
Exactly coach. Like you pointed out, context is key. And like I mentioned, an official renaming isn't really necessary.
I was kinda just posting to let Ric know I understand his POV, but we really don't need an official rename. And personally, I'd feel like a bit of a sissy calling it kraken control to another grown man. LOL.
Lmao
Zog makes this thread gold. You all have good arguments but we can't be re-naming shit at this stage in the game. Bottom line is you can't keep everyone happy all the time
Pretending something doesn't exist and sheltering one from a reality that exists whether you like it or not will be futile in the end. Keeping an honest open line of communication has been the best approach I've seen so far. If you refuse to talk to your kids about the gritty part of life, guess who she's gonna learn from? Dumbass peers, social media, reality tv, fuckin Miley Cyruss.. With technology where its at today, kids are gonna be exposed to everything easier and earlier than ever. Who knows how this will effect them but seriously, would you rather your kids learn the gritty shit about life from you? Or the demented 11 year old down the street? One thing you can bet on is they will be exposed. One way or another. Your only choice is from who. Mainstream media, friends, corporate advertising mindfuckers, the interwebz, or you. I'm gonna put my money on you on having her best interests in mind.
I shout "Release the Kraken!" every time I take a piss.
i don't see anything wrong with crackhead. I think in general people are way to sensitive about if something is a "bad word". If you don't like it say something else.
I have alt. terms for many of the moves for my kids classes. I like Kraken though:) I use "really rubber guard" also retard control is "spaz control" douche bag is "stinky foot" etc....
My thoughts in no apparent order, take them or leave them. ;)
For what it's worth, if you have kids (particularly young kids) you probably get this. If you don't, you probably don't get it.
Bottom line, really young kids are information sponges. "Mommy, what's a crackhead?" Single young male: you are probably thinking "just explain it to him. He has to learn eventually. THAT'S REAL LIFE SON!" Yeah, now your four year old gets nightmares and asks people on the street if they are crackheads. Dude, he's four. He can be a child for a while longer.
Anybody knows how to raise my sons better than I do, be sure to send me a private message.
That said, I'm pretty sure if you said "Kraken control" in the company of small children, I doubt anybody would be like "You mean CRACKHEAD CONTROL?? Hey little kid, you ever seen a crackhead?" ;)
Lastly, I think updating the terminology might make the spread of the 10th Planet system easier. I could imagine instructors not wanting to pick it up and teach it to kids because it's all douchebags, crackheads, etc. But it's hard to argue with what wins.
What difference does it make what you call it? Wasnt the reason for naming moves so you can call it out anyways and there would be instant recognition as to what needs to be done? Ric call it whatever you want! It doesn't have to be some formal system wide name change because as long as the person you are telling to do the move understands then the purpose is served.
On a side note I'd rather not have my kids yelling out things like "crackhead", "douchebag" or "retard". Nothing to do with the pussification of America more so I'd rather my kids be a bit more respectful than that.
On the flip side maybe one day your kid is gonna get jumped on the street by a crackhead, they wont know what to do maybe they go to mission control by mistake and just get horribly overwhelmed by their strength level. :p
When i started i thought it was "crack headcontrol", playing off of crack regiments in the military, which are the best. That seems like a pretty easy solution. Lol
I have had more nightmares about krakens than crackheads. Don't get me started on Medusa. Clash of the Titans fucked me up as a kid.
The name Crackhead Control is nowhere near the same level of offensive as DPO.
They should rename "Tre Flips" to "Twist and Twirls" too.
There are a couple techniques that I regret naming, like Dead Pussy Odor for example, but that one actually is so bad it never stuck, not even DPO stuck. Everyone still calls it limp arm. Douche bag and baby arm are a little iffy for me but they actually stuck and I don't think there's any turning back from those, so fuck it. But crackhead control is not bad at all, it's just stupid, not offensive, and I don't think we can ever shake it anyways, it's too late, so crack head it is :)

PS I love Ric like a brother and respect his feelings :)
Is this what you kinda have in mind Zog for the ATM? Think you've been beaten to it :)

That moment when you realize why its called the babyarm and have been screaming it for years. Just happened. Pretty damn funny. How'd I miss that?
