Is it okay to tap if you get one of those super painful toe cramps, that feel like you are crossing your toes, your foot contorts into a claw, and your calf goes into super spasm? Only while training of course, I would just have too fight through in competition.
Cramps and things along that nature I think are ok to pause rolling for. I try to fight it for a bit but sometimes u can't shake it. I wouldn't "tap" to a cramp, I would just ask my partner to stop I have a cramp and it's usually not a big deal. A lot of people cramp up but if it continues to happen every minute or so then get off the mat
What the heck? you're scary.
I tap from top side because I feel like working my passing. People get pissed and all, "i was good." I also tap from bottom side because i dont want my guard getting passed. Ima selfish cunt. But mat time is pressious.
You can't get mad at anyone for tapping to anything for whatever reason. When we lock the bedroom door. You're gonna be glad there's a safety word. Pineapples..

Im new to the gi. Used by myself after being collar choked by a guy inside of my guard for the first time
I try not to compete with my teammates all the time. When parameters are set, by anyone, injuries have went down and everyone gets more mat time. What I'm doing is spontaneous positional drills. Everyone does them, we just freestyle sessions more. We agree as a team to progress in one aspect of the game. If my tap is ignored, I know you are in competing mode. All good and necessary. But if I sweep or pass, you can't make me keep side if I wanna pass again. But yes, you can keep me in side.
Passing and retaining guard is our weakest point. So I steer our practices that way. They were annoyed when I first started. Now they're better.
That's not rolling then, that's drilling, completely different mindset.
It is.
But I'll pull it at random times. Confusing for some, but really normal for me. I almost always try to keep it under 4 people at a time. I like to talk to them and see what they're thinking and why. Its what happens hen you roll with the same dudes for years with no timer, lil weed, and some internet.
But yeah. If the rolling timer is on at a gym. Fight till youre dead.
This is also the reason why your amazing to hang with. Lots of intellect behind everything and immediate responses to all situational questions.
Anyway, we agree, if I stop a roll early, we both know why. Because either you keep catching something that needs to be addressed immediately, or I do. Some shit you just can't put off when both are so familiar with eachothers game.
I always quit after i've gotten tapped a bunch in a row because Im gassed out. That how it always ends for me. What else am I gonna do? Usually other people have already left and only a couple people are down to stay and keep going anyway. Still this is always the end for me, tapped many times because I dont have any cardio left.
Not sure the worse but the most common is "I wasn't ready".
Last night I got beat up pretty good. I was freaking gassed.. I had nothing left. But I couldn't quit thinking about this post so I took my bumps and bruises and I tried to have "moments" but all in all I just got beat up.
Truth of it is, I'm ok with that.
Not sure which one, but the guys that tell you "lets just go light" are the best. Whenever I hear that my defenses go WAY up. haha
I think my best one, caught a high level dude in a twister, instead of tapping he just screams "my back". then I asked him if he was ok, as I cranked it a little harder as he wasn't tapping. he says (in his fancy Brazilian accent) "Oh, I fine. just hurt my back. no need to tap, es not a move." I about died lol

I stop anytime anyone taps. It's disrespectful and almost predatory not to. I don't get it. The "learn the hard way" shit only works for some.
Most painful tap for me was when a guy leaned back for a bad straight ankle lock, stomped his foot into my cup, and it dislodged one of my balls. Then, when he readjusted, his toe gripped that nut and stretched it halfway down my leg. I think that one's legit.
I've caught a few high-level belts who stop me to coach the technique... "Let me show you how to do this..." They're presumptuous because I wear a white belt.
I remember in the beginning when I couldn't roll the full hour, I would have to walk home. It was about a 20-30 minute walk. So I'd leave early cuz I needed enough energy to walk home. LOL. Eventually I started staying the whole hour cuz some guys would help me with a ride. My point is, if you can help it, stay the whole time. It quickly ups your cardio and helps you improve faster.
lol. Was it Royler?
I wasn't looking for your permission.
It IS the same thing. If I'm rolling with a student and he taps due to his cardio, I will continue to roll with them, and coach them through it, encourage them to keep going even if they want to give up. Afterwards they always appreciate the push, not realizing they own limits until exceeded. That's is not predatory.
Dave did you ever feel victimized by me refusing to let you quit?
Now that you edited your post and clarified your position, it is entirely different.
Rolling with Herzog isn't a fun time lol, especially when you roll with him towards the end of the night or you just had some hard rolls with bigger students. His pressure is enough to suck the life out of you haha. I never tapped from being tired, just dealt with it and kept going. That's how I got better, my cardio now has improved quite a bit. Tapping from being in danger and tapping because of cardio are two diff things. Change your diet or whatever you need to do and suck it up.
