Great work. Full guard was a death sentence.
Great work. Full guard was a death sentence.
You could tell the brown belt has watched a few of Toms matches. He wanted nothing to do with Tom pulling guard lol
Carbone is a beast, nice guard. Congratulations :)
First off, congrats on the wins Tom. Solid work big fella.
Zog, your cornering is outstanding, bro. Really calm, easy-to-follow instruction. The two of you work well together. Hats off.
Tom, what's your height and weight, both day of and walking around?
YES! Epic win!
Anything that bows the spine and neck makes it easier to fold them over.
You can hear his coaching is actual coaching. Not the typical "go get him, come on man!" useless jabber.
Im around 6'4 and for that tournament I worked pretty hard for the past few months getting down to 205, the right way. Coach isn't big on guys cutting a bunch of water weight. Ive walked around the past year as high as 250. Couple years ago I was well over 300.
Agree with the coaching comment. Top notch. It takes some practice on your end to respond to it as well. Respect to both of you on that front. Someone could probably scream at me with a megaphone and I wouldn't respond as well.
You're a big kid! I walk around at 6'5" around 235-239 lbs. of out of shapeness. I'm trying to get where you're at! Being almost 300 in dog years makes it tougher.
Love the big man game, dude. Keep grindin'.
Man, that brown belt in the super fight had insane posture. Tom's patience, faith and persistence won him that match. Outmuthafuckingstanding peformance!! :)
Thanks, hopefully I can show some other aspects of my game next time
Curtis Mosley is awesome. He is one of the guys I train with all the time. He borrowed my 10th planet DVD's to get ready for the match. He said he was prepared for everything except the strength of Tom's squeeze. He said never felt one that strong. He is one of the guys that will be tagging along to the seminar. We are getting a final head count this week.
Congrats Big Cat
Actually worked some of these exercises this morning with a 15 lb ball this morning because my training partner overslept. Was able to do all of them except for the triangle. Couldn't get a tight lock over the shin, could only lock it over the toes. Should I move to a smaller diameter medicine ball for the triangle, or work the squeeze with less than perfect technique?
Also, what about hitting the tepee with these types of squeezing exercises?
You can do both, Also heavy bags can be used instead of medicine balls. And yes you can do it with Tepees as well.
Great advice! My legs tire out when I have to hold the lock down for a while. I've been thinking to myself "I should do some serious leg training to make sure I'm strong and can last". Good advice and thanks for sharing.
Great work, and congrats on the purple belt!
Glad to see this bumped. Carbone is a monster and I still haven't seen these videos yet. I gotta remember to spend some time on the computer at home soon....
Great matches Tom, I watched them all. Very calm and measured Jiu jitsu.
sheesh Zog, it must be frustrating for the guys that go up against your troops. You are a clear, calm and Concise coach. Amazing coaching, and amazing concentration on Tom, listening and implementing each move as you guide him.
Very cool.
Thanks. From the white belts to our newest black belt, we got a lot of good people at the gym that throw so many different styles at you each day. Definitely helps you prepare for whatever the tournaments throw at ya.
rewatched the match. tom's a beast. one of my favorite dude's to roll with, even though i somehow always manage to wind up in his guard. he's always giving me tips and and suggestions on how to improve.
