robbie could have hurt him but he was blinded by his rage
Wow. He made a lot of great points. And pretty much punked AH.
Im rooting for Daley, he's our only hope to bring a belt to England at the moment! Plus Diaz likes to bang which will probably be his downfall against Daley. Its going to be such a good fight! Two of my favourite fighters :)
I have to say, before this thread goes to the archives, nick diaz has always been one of my favorite fighters. He's immensely exciting to watch. I also like him personally. I think he's got a good head on his shoulders and his outlook on his personal life is pretty evolved... His attitude towards other fighters is completely unprofessional, tho. He's too arrogant for his own good. I'd like to see Daley shock the world, but I really don't see him as a threat to nick diaz.
BJ PENN vs NICK DIAZ. that would be a dream matchup.
There is no substitute for talent and preparation. Nick trains under Luisito Espinosa, former WBA and WBC world champion. Nick also trains with Andre Ward, an Olympic gold medalist as a sparring and training partner. The best way to improve at anything is to train with people who are world class at that thing. Who does Daley work with again? What skills has he showed other then raw natural power?
Standing with his hands so far in front of him costs Nick some power, do to a lack of distance for his fist to travel, but even though he sacrifices the power that would have been created over this distance, he also costs his opponent an equal amount of reaction time. Nick uses his proximity to his advantage, effectively measuring the distance with one hand, then tagging you with the other. Scott Smith showed everyone how difficult it can be to get out of the way in such a small amount of time, before another shot lands.
It isn't just the short distance that thows fighters off it's his timing, too. Nick isn't in a hurry to finish you, he loves being in the fight and is in no hurry for it to end. He'll drag it out exhausting an opponent because, very few fighters have half of his cardio ability. The man does triathalons for Christ sake!! While other fighters burn there arms up throwing power shots and giving away their timing, Nick's arms never slow or stop coming. Diaz has figured out a way to stay on the offensive, score points with the judges and keep his opponent guessing and confused.
Hate the man all you want for his attitude and personality but Nick is a true fighter with alot of real talent. What makes his fights exciting is exactly what people say is his flaw, he isn't affraid to show the fans he has a chin, and he's not affraid to mix it up and get a little bloody or beat up. I as a fan of exciting fights, appreciate his attitude and spirit and am glad there are fighters like him to keep this sport exciting and fun. It counter balances all of the fighters who either dance around, lay on top of their opponent dry humping them, or those who rarely get the finish.
Every "Professional" sport is full "professionals" like Nick Diaz. Take a look at football, hockey, baseball. They have what "fans" call their bad boys. The fact is, if you have been around any professional athletes, there aren't very many "Professionals" around. People think that because kids are taught to act "PROFESSIONAL" that they grow up to be model citizens like GSP. It isn't true. In fact its silly.
You don't think he'd have a career if he wasn't at the top except for small shows against no-names??? DUH, what MMA fighters have careers because they suck and can't win fights but are pleasant people? Come on people, a football players goes to jail for dog fighting and then gets signed to play football after he gets out. See my point.?
The term professional should be kept at a distinguishing between getting paid on not.
1) Whether or not he jumped basically who you believe. here is the story from both parties. http://ninjashoes.net/forum/showthre...EEN-DIAZ-RIGGS
Niether of them say it was in a bathroom though. Whatever two dudes, 2 different stories. I like Joe Riggs but I have a hard time believing that he didn't instigate that at all.
2) I think Diaz only gets a bad wrap for having no head movement because he cuts easy. Look at his recent fights when he completely dodging punches with his hands down. With like Smith and shamrock. He does tend to stand straight up sometimes, but that he the difference between when he is counter punching and when he is being the aggressor. With as many punches as he throws it makes it difficult to have a swivel for a head unless your naturally very quick.
3) I think that this is either going to be a highlight reel clip for Daley with a powerful left hook knockout or it is going to be a disappointment for the fans when Diaz dominates the fight and subs him. Daley will want a rematch just like he did with Jake Sheilds after he arm bared him in the first round.
"arm bared him in the first round" Would love to see him hit that same set up ;)
well it will be a fight of the year regardless.....daley made weight so it is absolute game on!
And as I said earlier in the thread...Diaz got more respect from me from being the only guy talking about guys like kosheck's incessant leg humping. Laying on guys not trying to improve his position or submit...just stalling and holding position. It's absolutely unthinkable...change the rules or force refs to stand them up. It's not GOOD WRESTLING...it's sucks...this isn't point sparring it's MMA!
I don't really have a problem with nick...I have a problem with people (not here) thinking that dude has no flaws in his game...he does...and some big ones. But the really big problem is his lack of competition. Daley would be in the UFC right now if he didn't have a tampex moment...so this is a legit guy. If Diaz beats him the conversation is over. Sure we can say he needs to fight a legit wrestler...but whatever. I will respect him as being one of the top WW. I already thinks he has major game but his last couple of fights really didn't impress me in that the level of competition was so very low. No disrespect
I think the problem is the lack of respect that people (like you) have for his opponents. your saying Cyborg is a legit grappler or striker?
People should remember that in MMA anything can happen. And when dudes have great striking and pedigree jiu jitsu like Cyborg, the odds rise with the statement that anything can happen. UFC aint everything. There are other top MMA guys.
I also don't see this as a fight that will be fight of the year canidate either. Daley will either win by left hook or Diaz will win by submission. Even if Diaz dominates him like Shamrock or Smith it will be a one sided fight. Because Daley has only one avenue of winning, he doesn't have much of the chemistry needed for a fight of the night formula.
i didn't mean diaz hasn't fought top quality fighters... i mean, if he lost his position, no fighter outranking him would give him a shot unless forced by their organization... Dana White said Diaz will never be in the UFC again... my prediction is that strikeforce will exist as long as diaz remains champ. once he loses the belt, strikeforce will merge with UFC minus nick diaz.
I mean no disrespect but cyborg is a journeyman...KJ Noons is a lighweight... I mean. Would any of these guys be on a UFC roster? Nick Diaz has had nothing approaching elite competition in years...frank shamrock maybe? Gomi was a great fight but Gomi tagged him too. Sure...all fighters deserve respect but I think that you can not argue Diaz has had a competition problem.
The reason why I see it as a fight of the year candidate is because Daley's muay thai is many levels higher than cyborg. Daley is knows that you can counter Diaz's pace punches...in fact as my boy Lorenz showed you can actually shoulder roll out of the way and tag guys who don't jab. I am not convinced that these pace punches work at a high level in MMA. Diaz could be an innovator...or he could just not have had the competition. Then people go on and on about Daley only having a left hook. They obviously haven't seen him fight....he is a striker...he has a great jab and excellent muay thai and elbows...he busts people up standing up. He's not just one punching them.
It's on!!!!

To say that Cyborg is low level competition is just plain silly... That fight was gruelling. The guy kicks like a mule, literally! Being a National MT champ and ADCC champ says he is a very high level fighter... just sayin ;)
I agree on the other point, this lay and pray shit is old!
Dude Diaz vs Daley is a fight of the night forumla in itself Diaz has one of the worst shots in the business he is a wizard on the ground but far from Jake Shields with the take downs. Daley is alot more complete as a striker utilizing more weapons on his feet should be a great fight period.
Daley knock out in the 2nd round
Diaz always gets rocked early in a fight. but he always seems to recover... I think Daley's key to victory is not letting that opportunity pass. Rock him early and don't let him recover. keep punching until you're gassed! just takes a few seconds of delivering constant unreturned blows for a ref to step in. Diaz will contest the stoppage, popping up immediately after daley stops waling on him...
Well the big question is, since Daley made weight, does this mean he will gas early? He almost never makes weight, and he came in at like, what, 169? Since he is usually like 173 or something, will the weight cut be a factor, or has he finally figured out how to do it the right way?
This just might end up being the greatest post fight brawl in the history of history.
By the Twister!
wtf did I just watch?!?! My God! Never thought he would...wow!!
hahahaha daley got his ass beat at his own game lol
no...he didn't...he got beat by Nick Diaz's game. Nick did not change his style one bit...not at all..there was nothing different from the cyborg fight...well except he beat the dog shit out of daley....wow!
I thought nick was done when the 2nd time daley floored him and nick got up and knocked the crap out of him and that was a good stoppage in my book. The way Daley fell I thought he was unconscious...
I have to agree, I though Diaz would use his jab and long Right to beat Daley (Diaz has horrible takedowns), but he basically did his same clowning crap and managed to still beat him (Sometimes I think Diaz is too crazy to realize he is hurt/losing). Those body shots he was putting on Daley were brutal, and what I think really made the fight go Diaz's way. That second time he dropped Nick, he was on his way out, but like a wounded lion, the guy is dangerous to the end. I think we was intimidated by the weird way Diaz does things (talking the whole time, hands down, odd looking punches) and got rocked and never recovered.
I am not a Diaz fan, but that guy can fight.
Dude...I felt them body punches and he was then taking it upstairs....then he was walking through daley's jabs...I was just sitting there not even believing what I was watching. then when nick was hurt him moving his head...getting his bearings and not panicking and then landing a knockout punch..dropping daley. People say the stoppage was early..the only factor I use is what the fighter says...daley didn't complain and needed to be helped back to the stool...so...good stoppage...
Warrior spirit bro, Diaz can take a punch, and those arm punches he throws must have a sting on them!! How about Aoki and Gil's destruction of their opponents? Great fucking fights!!
It's incredible when a champion chooses to beat his opponent through their own strengths rather than exploiting their weaknesses. There were several ways that Diaz could have won this fight and he chose the hardest path. Insane.
To be honest he actually did something smart. When a bully, gets bullied, he tends to break. Its risky, but Diaz pulled it off. But he really only had one other way to beat Daley IMO, and that was playing to his jab and using distance to frustrate him with a right hand. Daley isnt terrible at defending takedowns, and Diaz is bad at them.
Aoki was amazing. And I mean Fancy Pants scrambles like no one's business....Aoki controlled him and submitted him like he was an absolute rookie. Diaz...wow...Diaz...I guess them pace punches hurt like a mug. But seriously...he was crushing the body against the cage and his head movement after he got dropped was incrediblle. He was throwing rights and lefts right down the pipe and they were hurting.
I have to acknowledge that...I really think he did break daley's spirit when daley realized he wasn't going to get the stoppage when he was pounding diaz..and then diaz got up.....Nothing like crushing some dude and getting ready for the ref to come in and dude stands up....
Diaz has amazing hip movement when he strikes. You almost have to watch it in slow motion to appreciate the power he generates by flinging his fist from the hip. No wind up needed, twist and fire. This is why his strikes look slow but have the velocity of a ball and chain.
dang man...Nick thinks he's going to get suspended...
http://www.mmafighting.com/2011/04/1...aul-daley-win/
wth is this about? He's right..there fighting him like every 2 months. When your top fighter says you're fighting him too much..you're fighting him too much. You know, I'm really starting to see why he is the way he is. You can see he's upset. This guy just made you a grip of money and you f-in with him?
Me and couple others said Diaz's boxing is up to par with the best in the game and even better than some of the "elite" strikers. We made these comments over having watched almost all of Diaz's fights more than a couple times each. We have been laughed at, by people who thought Daley's left hook = amazing striking, but in the end Diaz made us proud. I was worried when he was dropped but he got up and showed why he is the champ at Strikeforce. Now I would like to see him go against UFC elite to see if he is only amazing for Strikeforce standards or also the UFC.
hahhaaha, yes. Anything can happen in MMA but I love it when Im right.
^^^ Diaz is a beast proved me wrong but dam he ate some vicious hooks that mother fucker has a chin.
Those body shots were fucking savage
