Is this a Tree of Black Belts? Because Joe Rogan is on there and I'm pretty sure he's a Brown Belt.

Any Six Sigma black belts?
People can where whatever they want. Weather it's a t-shirt at the mall or a rash for training It's obviously a different story if you want to compete.
Telling someone they can't where whatever color shirt they want is retarded, not only that, but it's a bad business model. Which is why no one really follows anything that any of you are saying on here. Do they do a history check on your rank before they send you a blue t-shirt? No? Oh because that would be stupid for them to not take your money. If a chick likes purple and really wants this shirt in purple, she isn't being disrespectful no matter how seriously you guys want to take yourselves. I just think it's funny someone would ask about someone being a white belt and wearing a blue t-shirt at home, as if it really matters.
Let people where what they want, it will sort itself out in competition, it's not something that needs brought up anytime someone is wearing a color that doesn't match their forum belt.
You guys actually wear the color shirt you are when you roll? What if it's dirty? lol Who cares, the mats show what belt you are regardless what color shirt/socks/shorts you have on. The system is no gi, no uniformity, some people even roll shirtless. This whole thing is crazy. The higher the belt, the less of them there are. Now no one will want to buy the 10th Planet shirts if they think someone is going to question their credentials based on the color they are wearing. You're just hurting sales now, which means less exposure for 10th Planet. Thanks.
Agree with the bolded. I'm not part of a 10th yet, so I may be speaking out of turn...but rolling is one thing. I would say though, I think it's cool to wear your color for competition. As a sign of pride. But like Frank said, the mats will show what color you really are regardless.
I see you guys point on the respect thing especially if that is the way Eddie wants it but it does seem kind of silly. I will personally keep my dollars rather than where something I don't like. There is no dress code at HQ and Eddie gives out belts when he promotes not shirts. The person in question is not misrepresenting him self. His rank indicates white and im sure he didn't know he was doing anything wrong. They don't restrict the sale of the shirt on the melee website. It seems like if its that important they should only sell the shirts at official moons and come up with a different design to sell online. But, I would personally respect Eddies wishes.
Exactly.
The shirts are designed to represent your 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu (or non black belt BJJ )rank. It's ironic that the people arguing that it doesn't matter are not ranked. Try telling that to someone who has busted their ass to earn their rank that it doesn’t matter, my guys pride their rank shirts.
There is no filtering system on the Melee website, because it’s not run by Eddie, and I’m sure he wouldn't have the time to read a questionnaire every time someone ordered a shirt. There is a reason you can't buy a black shirt from Melee, those are special ordered through Eddie.
i gotta be honest: i don't pay any attention at all to what color shirt/rashie that i or anybody i ever train with is wearing. i didn't know we were supposed to be abiding by this.
i wouldn't get too worked up about it. i haven't ever seen anything official from Eddie about it, at least not that i recall.
i have been wrong before, though....
Thats not 100% accurate. Eddie has promoted with rank shirts. My promotion was to brown belt was done with a rank shirt.
And I wouldn't show up to HQ or any other affialte with a purple belt rank rashguard or shorts if your not that rank, your likely to get smashed by people rolling with your at that (purple) level.
^^^^ Herzog must've posted as i was typing.
Coach, is there an official stance on what color shirt/rashie to wear when you train?
Its the law of being on the mat, If you wear a brown 10th planet shirt, you better be able to roll like your a brown belt that day ;)
Someone may mistake you for being a brown belt and twist your ass up.
I wouldn't walk in to a gi BJJ class as a white belt and decide I like the color purple better and wear a purple belt instead.
Theres no written rule, other than no black rank shirts, that I'm aware of. But its been spoken about a number of times, I know I've spoken to Eddie and Alder about it.
Didn't realize that the shirts were ranked. I thought it was all by belt. I'll keep this in mind so I don't get my ass pretzeled.
think people look into this too much. i have a bunch of pink shirts, but that doesnt make me a pink belt...oooorrrrr dooeeeesss it?
i have a bunch of different shirt. i understand the reason why there would be a restriction on BLACK ones...thats an honor. but hey, sometimes i wear my blue 10pjj shirt, sometimes white. im just REPRESENTIN 10pjj...with blue, or white, purple, gray...blah blah
thatd be the same as saying you cant wear the 10pjj hoodie. ITS BLACK! :O
so are many of the other shirts on Melee for 10P
It is only the melee ranked 10p t's being an issue. And only if you train. Otherwise it is a nonissue. If you are ignorant of the rule no one will really mind. Some of us are just informing that we look at ranked shirts as a symbol of accomplishment. If you choose not too fine, but that was the inspiration behind them. If your down with the system I dont see why you would object though.
And yeah, I still wear my grey(neutral) t too. But I wouldnt wear a purple, make sense?
That's exactly it, you think we're talking about all things.
The 10th Planet Ranked tee's or any other ranked thing. Purple belt rashguards from nogi for example should only be worn by people who have achieved a purple belt, but they can wear a purple nike thing if they really want.
So grappler isn't a black belt? lol I always thought the ranked gear situation was simple enough. damn guys!
So its agreed that Grey is neutral then ? I really wanted a 10th planet hoodie, they only come in Black or Grey...And the zip up is black only...
The hoodie is fair game. I love my black 10p thermal. Its 'just a shirt'. Its the ranked t's.
What about my black thong? Is that an issue?
Nobody would question that your a bb in whatever your thong represents.
As JC said The only issue is with the 10th planet "rank" shirts and "rank" boardshorts and rashguards, all else is fair game.
If its a non ranked shirt or rashguard no one will care. If you wear a brown or black under armor shirt or rashguard to class it wont be an issue.
Maybe they can make a variation of all the shirts so that it actually says "Blue Belt" on the back of it so that there is no doubt someone is claiming that rank. And now you can let everyone know what belt you are. Talk about being humble though. The rest of the shirts would now be able to be worn by anyone who wants to represent the system, and they don't have to worry about not being able to color match their clothes cause of some sort of technicality. An idea to the issue.
Sensei Herzog knows his stuff and already put my ass in line look frank your a white belt we are new to this game the rules have been made and set out the way they are for a reason!
Agreed. I wasn't being serious though about the big bold "Blue Belt" on the back, it's just funny. I don't even own any shirts, it was for the rest of the guys that are wanting to wear them you know.
The rank t-shirt system I understand and respect, but I prefer wearing a rashguard in competition instead of a t-shirt.
Now maybe I've looked over it, but I can only find 1 rashguard (black with some white) on the melee site and the rest are the colored rank t-shirts.
Now considering my (sarcasm)sexy and atlethic(/sarcasm) build, I will never wear a light colored rashguard, so to overcome this problem I buy a cheap, yet decent black rashguard (9.99€) and order some 10th Planet patches in the correct color from the site.
Add some superglue and voila: you have a black rashguard with a white rank patch stuck on your chest.
I wonder why are people so obsessed with belts and rankings. I mean if you are not trying to get a higher belt so you can teach the sport at a gym or have it in your mma fighter resume, belt means absolutely nothing. It is actually a burden. I know BB jiujitsu guys who has not trained in 2-3 years and now are scared to go back on the mat and train with that BB since they would be tooled around by conditioned and continuously training purple belts. I did not train with the GI a whole lot, so I am a white belt, but when I tap blue belts, I wonder how they feel. If it was me, I would be embarrassed, I would be asking myself, am I worth of this rank?
I am not saying i will not be tapped by a lower rank student of the game, ofcourse it is going to happen here and there but minimizing the occurrences would be good.
My personal opinion on the subject is that if you are representing yourself as colored belt, you now have the responsibility to act, talk, advice, teach and roll like one and it is not easy even on the blue belt level. If you think having a rank in BJJ is less than that, then go ahead and put on a hot pink belt if you want and say that it was actually red belt 15 stripes that went off color due to multiple washings, no one will care.
