Yay!!! The true spirit and comradery of Jiu Jitsu (BJJ, 10thpJJ, Japanese, etc) prevails! I love this sport! :D
"After studying the facial construction for about ten minutes or so I have determined that if that's not Renato on MeleeFightGear.com, he's got a twin brother running around somewhere!!! "
Lol maby just a look alike.
we had a long thread about it on the other site. it's pretty hard to describe. he strikes like a snake. there are no steps, just one continuous movement.
it is demonstrated against an untrained attacker; when he goes for the throat (think rape choke).
it's very impressive.
That's a mouth full. I trained with Rhassan at HQ and this Renato cat is nothing like Rhassan, except maybe the color of his skin.
The clear pixel thing is me, in return for a few privates I am doing some graphics for Renato so he can branch out more and it'd help him out. I also did his avatar for him as a favour.
You think you're cool making out this is a prank? You look more a fool because he's a real life guy. He told me his instructor but I can't remember what his name was, too many Brazilian names going through my head
Why the fuck would that make someone feel cool?
Renato is a model?
I wanna see him rolling one of the blacks or browns. Just to see him prove his point, or their lack of foundation.
When I was launching the latest version of the melee site, I needed an athletic male model. A good friend of mine works at a modeling management company, and I asked her if anyone would be willing to shoot for free...as my budget was tight. Renato totally stepped up, and it turned out he was a fellow BJJ practitioner. He was really professional and generous with his time. At the shoot, we were talking shop about JJ and I said come train with us. And he did.
If Renato is real, then I'm an international playboy with a donkey sized appendage. Great creation though : )
Wow, Seven pages? Damn!!!
I can tell you one thing...Guys that used to training in GI play jj very "tight". I mean they are used to maintaining a very tight grip while going from one transition to another. Maybe it's even better to start your bjj with gi...just to have the feel of it...the feel of "tightness" of the game, the feel of good control over your opponent. Then you can move to no-gi and your game will only get better. I started with no-gi but it was damn hard for me at first, i had to learn to balance on my opponent which was hell of a lot harder than if i'd put my gi on. But despite all this bullcrap i can easily throw rubber guard on my opponents with or without gi. I'v heard Eddie say that gi developes bad habits like pulling by the collar while having your opponent in your guard but that's where your open-mindness comes into play. I would wear a freaking gi just to make it easier for my opponent to choke me, just to be more aware but i wouldn't use the advantages of my gi (except keeping my sweat of my face and stuff). My point is that gi means more control, more awareness. Gi doesn't make your game worse, but you have to be able to do just as well without the darn jacket.
P.S. Rickson trained without gi from time to time and don't tell me he doesn't know jiu-jitsu.
Oh and...here's Royce saying why he is using a gi in his fight with sakuraba (from 3:00) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjM2akbN-9Q
I wonder if Renato will go on the cruise.
Can we see Renato versus Eddie on MTS? :)
If I had only one year to get good at Gi or No Gi for a no gi tourney, I would totally invest it in no gi training. No point of pulling on things in training when its not there later. When I train, my clinch gets stronger everytime I do it. The collar chokes are not going to be there in competition, Ill invest time in some other submission defense. Its up to the athlete to train the way he does. If he is drilling without proper clinch work, we will see it in competition. Maybe its the friction of the Gi that gives you control, but what if its not their? Maybe we can turn to physics or science for the answer. As far as sweat factor, yes its there. Accept the battlefield you are in and prepare ahead, maybe some 10th planet? I think tradition is a huge factor. What could happen in an alternate jiu jitsu universe? Both are beautiful, but I see them as two different sports. I don't see it so much as Art vs Art, but who has the most effective training method in that area? A different philosophy has came to the surface back in '03. It's now 2010, I'll just let time tell, not just in Jiu Jistu but also in MMA.

Mistuyo Maeda didn't need a gi
"I do it all for jiu jistu Brazil jiu jitsu".
I've got no doubt that Renato is a master on the mat. And I respect the fact that he defends his passion to fight with Gi, but why does he have to comment on everything Eddie says in the MTS series?!
I think it's rude and unrespectfull towards Eddie. I get angry by just watching it, so my compliments to Eddie that he can stay polite and respectfull to Renato eventhough he doesn't get it in return.
No one should complain about jujitsu ju-jitsu jiu-jitsu or any other type of grappling because the basis is all the same to subdue your opponent without excessive force. All jiu-jitsu started from Japan with the Gi, but all submissions go back to acient Greeks and Romans so Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu isn't necessarily better than 10thppj or Japanese jujitsu its all the art of grappling and submissions with variations, people should just be accepting of all like Heidi said we all come from the same lineage when it comes to grappling whether you are from Brazil, America, Japan, Asia, Greece ect...
ive trained and hung out with rhasaan a bunch of times at HQ and when he came here (melbourne) for a seminar. Im sure he'd find the comparisons made on this thread hilarious.
Who gives a shit !! Just goddamn watch MTS, if you do not like it don't fucking watch it. Simple as that
I never thought there would be nine pages of this shit!!! That's fucking hilarious!!!
Hahaha good stuff guys ... so much time wasted. BUT here I go lol. In my opinion its a punk, HOWEVER, its made to entertain us all and to make life a bit more fun so its a douchy thing to do to try and uncover it like your some Sherloc Holmes lol. If it is a punk then itll come out in the future but meanwhile just enjoy, you gotto remember Eddie and the crew are professionals at Jiu Jitsu NOT acting, so enough of this critique lol cmon'
Agreed :D
Hey Crazies,
The Renato saga has me laughing my ass off everytime I see it. So funny.
Renato is a true demi-god of the Annunaki. He comes from a bloodline of higher power, knowledge and technology. Mainly the Gi gives him these gifts.
Guys,
I see a lot of posts on here about Renato Laranga and many of them are pretty disrespectful. Some of you have basically claimed that it is all joke and he's not real etc. - IF ONLY THAT WERE TRUE. Come to headquarters and you will see.
I don't agree with Renato (or anyone) interrupting class because to me, that's disrespecting Eddie and a few guys and I have talked to him about it because a week ago things got out of hand. But likewise, he is entitled to all of his opinions on the gi and its value and I think having an open mind is one of the main unique points about 10th planet.
Renato has been training at 10th planet in Hollywood and he is a Brazilian black belt. You don't see film on the days where he is just a great training partner to have and he is just there to train. What you've seen is video on a couple of incidents with Eddie but everyone is trying to work it out and train in a friendly environment. It doesn't help when on these forums so many of you are making fun of him or how he carries himself. I think we should try to have a team that tries to adapt itself and enfold people with different views rather than reject them outright - despite the flareups we've had at HQ, I think we are all trying to show mutual respect, Renato included, and I am happy to welcome any and all blackbelts who want to come and train with us.
Bro, the fact is that most of us don't live anywhere near Hollywood and the only knowledge that we have of Renato is what we see on MTS... We all also know that Eddie (by his own admission) sometimes feels compelled to fuck with people and has done so in the past... If that's the case, then it's funny as hell if it's not the case, then perhaps Renato doesn't realize how naturally entertaining he is... However I don't think anyone on here meant any disrespect to anyone!!! We (as a whole) are not that type of community...
Laranja puts the "Gi" in "no-Gi Jiu Jitsu." He is the best thing ever to happen to 10th planet. The reason they're not putting up any footage of him rolling with people is cause he's clowning them all with Renato Jiu Jitsu.
That's right. I said it! Brasil Jiu Jitsu...Porra!!
Renato is a LEGIT black belt, his no-gi game is actually very, very solid. I didn't get to see him roll with Eddie who was injured when I was over there, but he was schooling everybody I saw him go with.
