looks like the most famous bullshit fake martial art . . . . . aikido.
All I want to know is do i have to train in the GI for this?
no gi, no chi.
I wouldn't call it that. I study it when I can afford to and it's a learning experience. Nothing like being on your feet one second and then staring at the ceiling and trying to figure out how you got there. Not to say that I wouldn't change some things. Punches for example. I've studied a lot of different marial arts and I've NEVER seen ANYONE throw a punch the way they do in Aikido. Then again, a lot of it comes from iaido/kendo/kenjutsu.
what do you mean "trying to figure out", you do real randori where you learn aikido? You should know exactly how you got there, the uki/tori relationship in aikido is (typically 99.999%) all kata no randori.
Use use atemi as well? Is this Tomiki linage? Every time I've seen people claim atemi in aikido its really more just irimi with a planned grazing blow or a love tap(that only works in pretend time) used to manipulate tori when uki has weak skills.
There are cool philosophy and principles in aikido, thats why I've spent so much time studying it but when you decide to make a "martial art" non-competitive and non-violent you also decided that you aren't going to be able to filter the bullshit from the legit.
IMO aikido is only good for handling very inebriated family members, in other words people who cant fight back with any skill and that you dont wish to hurt.
full disclosure, I enjoy learning aikido and trolling aikidōka people on youtube, equally. Anyone who wants to do some full contact sparring against me using aikido is welcome to come give it a try, Redwood FC, Eureka, Ca. I wont be a dick about it if you come.
Yes. We do randori. And yes, there have been a couple of throws used that I have no idea what happened. And we've done both atemi and irimi. The instructor explains the history behind the move and how it applies with both a sword and knife. It's a nice history lesson.
Leon Jay is the current Grandmaster of Small Circle Jujitsu and the son of Wally Jay, the Judo and Jujitsu instructor of my Sensei, David Quinonez. Professor (Wally) Jay never used "no touch" knock outs in the original founding in Small Circle Jujitsu, it was till Leon started associating with this tool bag that he turned more of his attention to learning "no touch KO's" Professor Jay was a man that if you gave him a finger he could find a way to transition hold that would break everything from fingers, arms, wrist (loved wrist manipulation) and shoulders, he was an amazing man. Makes me miss my Judo days in High School. Sadly I used to believe in the "no touch KO" and seen some of it done first hand, but with some research it really is a crock of shit. Still I am proud to have come from Professor Jay's lineage.
thats cool, normally though they may call it randori, aikido schools don't actually do randori like you would in judo, its actually basically what we call drilling. Type "aikido randori" into youtube and you'll see what I mean.
Do you know the linage of this school or its name? Is it in california?
The people prancing about in these videos jumping around to make their 'sensei' look amazing should be ashamed of themselves. The instructors probably believe they actually possess these magical powers because anytime they throw their hands up at these worthless pretenders they fly through the air. The instructors are probably just as deluded as the students!
So funny tho hahaha! Thanks for sharing!!
