The Cora Show is my new favorite weekly show!
I love how she's staying in IC longer to wear her opponents down, so crucial.
Cora needs to understand patience in the RG especially since her opponents now will have better posture and defense.
Can't wait to tighten her game up again :)
The Cora Show?? sounds like you were there with us...:) that was how it went down on sat. Cora put on a show. Even before she start any match, all I hear in the background talk was.. "there's that rubber guard girl" or "she the triangle girl". It was really funny and flattering that people are recognizing her as such. Coaches were warning their kids not to get in Cora's guard. The more she does this, the better prepared her opponents are getting. So you are absolutely right on that point. THat is why we have to keep on evolving. THis past 2 weeks has been a wonderful part of the journey.
The sad part is that EVERYONE, even strangers congratulate Cora on her victories and with the game she plays. But her head coach who was there, never said anything to that matter. Its not like we are begging for his attention, but just some recognition would be great. Some word of encouragement from someone Cora hold in high esteem would be fuel to the fire for her but nothing was mention. But other kids get them, not Cora. That is just the sad part to all of this. Maybe its insignificant to him and maybe he has seen it all with all his other past students and UFC fighters. Its not like he doesn't see how much dedication she put into this sport. He sees it, she is always the last kid to leave the gym at night. But for some strange reason he has never once mention personally to Cora how she is improving or how proud of her he is for always competing at high level. I'm just sad for her about this...:(
He might be intimidated. He may not know what to do. He might be mad. You need to talk to him about it.
Kurzy: Yes that's mi familia..:) As for me in jiu jitsu..LOL you are 100% correct, I love it, however, I am not able to do it. I've seen guys with one arm and one leg doing jiu jitsu and that's great. But I'm different. I have a bad deformity in my right shoulder. Instead of a ball and socket joint like most normal people have, I have a flat head and socket, thus limiting my range of motion. Now if you start seeing Cora attacking to one side, then its because that is all she can do on me. If she crank on my right arm it will hurt like hell. Now that is a 10 year old girl, can you imagine what will happen if a grown man would catch me in a kimura or Americana? He would rip my shoulder apart before I can even tap. That is how bad it is. So I will have to settle for teaching.
Sorry to say it, but her coach is just that. A Coach! Not a teacher!. Shame on him. Role models are so important right now in her life and he needs to take a look at himself here. If you have kids coming to your gym or dojo, then you have to train them at their level, at their age. She needs encouragement every day. If he thinks its making her tough think again. Its actually crushing her! Imagine the wings she would have if her coach had a clue!
Enough of that!

Hey Bruce. When I was young I did TKD for years. My main coach was excellent but very strict. He barely ever praised me, I was a standout amongst my class, I won big tournaments and competitions. I was very fast too. I was always seeking recognition from him. I believe it made me train harder to try and impress him. When I got my TKD black belt I injured my knee quite badly and had to take a long time off training. When I returned he asked how I was. I told him I had slowed down a lot and he said 'slowed down to a blur!'
Right then I realised that he had been recognising all my hard work and it was such a gratifying moment for me that ill probably never forget it.
Sometimes it's better not to give the kids too much praise because they could let it go to their head.
There is no way he's not impressed with Cora!
