I think that's my point. They would accept the risks and cut regardless of the timeline they had to rehydrate. If anything, they would need to institute a process where, I don't know, the fighter has to weigh in a week out from the fight and then again at cage-side. The fighter must be within a two-pound variance of the first weigh-in to fight.
Of course, they would never do this or any type of cage-side weigh in. One of the benefits with weigh-ins the night before is that they can negotiate a catch-weight / penalty if a fighter doesn't make weight. That way, the fight can still go on. Imagine the aneurism Dana White would have if fights had to be cancelled at showtime? That would be a production nightmare!
If it was all regulated by UFC as opposed to individual state commissions, that now would all have to change, then they could do something but at this point idk if its very possible unless a couple more guys die.
NCAA has hydration test and reasonable weigh in times.
Yes guys will still cut "like they do in bjj" which is much less weight! How many guys cut 30lbs for bjj?
It not about eliminating weight cutting, the advantage of size is such a tremendous factor that guys will always cut weight, its about limiting the amount that any fighter that's not a moron will attempt to cut. Its also about keeping the sport honest as far as weight classes.
Anyway it wont change without more deaths occurring close together in time. Not because its not how it should be but because of $$$.
Does Mitch Gagnon have his next fight scheduled?
Not sure. I will fire him a message and ask.
