Let's have a comparison between my computer and a mac pro.
my computer build - $1500 (tax and shipping to Hawaii included)
i7 930 2.83 (overclocked to 4GHz)
12GB 1600MHz RAM
1TB HD
ATI 5870 1GB
vs.
Mac Pro - $3,974
i7 2.8GHz
12GB RAM
ATI 5870
1TB HD
Hmm... What would you rather have? And yes, you can have both OS X and Win on both computers. So the OS is irrelevant.
I'd take your computer and buy an Apple sticker
Just as an extra piece of information, my budget is somewhere around 1500 so I'm somewhat limited in my MacBook pro but still interested. Can the Mac link up with my current wifi signal at the house without having to by an 'iport' or whatever? Also, how is the typing software for them and is that included like the editing software? Thanks for all the replies people! And yes Bobby, I'm thinking of converting to the dark side in this battle.... Or am I currently on the dark...
any mac will link up perfectly fine with any router. typing software? as in word processing? well you have your Microsoft Office for mac and then you have Apples version "iWork". Macs come preinstalled with iLife, which has iMovie. iMovie is a great video editing tool. If you really need it, you can get Final Cut Pro later on. If I were in your situation, I'd get a Macbook or base model Macbook Pro and grab a cheap 1080p monitor at best buy or something. That way you have portability and extra screen real estate for serious work at home. The differences between the base model of the macbook to the macbook pro are very minimal in actual performance. So be smart and get the best bang for your buck.
i pad all the way
iWorks is decent but Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac kills it, imo.
Yeah, the Macbook has only got 2gb of RAM, however, so I'd go for the Pro. Looks sleeker too, only a $150 or so difference between the two. You can upgrade your Macbook Pro RAM from 4gb to 8gb too, I'd recommend that.
DO NOT get the Apple LCD Cinema Display. It looks lovely, but you could buy a brand new iMac for the same price, it's ridiculous! I'm using a £150 HD monitor and bought the Mini-DVI to HDMI and it works perfectly :)
