In a fight, a MMA fighter would destroy a Krav Maga practitioner!!! What is great about Krav Maga is they teach very practical self defense. Very direct response's to attacks and they drill them over and over! Krav Maga does NOT practice 1000 ways to stop a certain technique...they limit the response's making it easy, and practical to learn. Doesn't take years to learn. Self Defense without the BS and no BS kata's of Karate. Fighting and Self Defense are different in many ways.
Louis there is no way Krav Maga guy is winning a fight with a MMA fighter. Who ever told you that probably had to register his hands to the police as lethal weapons when he took Karate. Here's a good video on self defense not krav maga but talks about the differences between self defense and fighting.

You'd be surprised what some people believe. I've been told that an Israeli commando would be able to destroy an ellite world class MMA fighter.
This is one of those things you can't compare. One is for in the field with weapons and full body armer the other is for a cage. The water down version of Krav is a self defense system for staying alive and getting away. That is like asking what would win a gorilla or a bear. Two different things completely. These what is better than the other post crack me up.
*Sigh* This argument is brought up all the time and I cant keep away from a keyboard whenever I see it. Louis in in 100% agreement with you. I think Krav Maga practicioners and instructors thrive of the mystique of the word "Special Forces". Ive done my share of deployments and can say from first hand experience that military systems are designed to quickly teach the average joe how to defend himself quickly. So as far as that goal is concerned, they succeed in spades, but MMA practicioners and traditional martial art practioners all teach their techniques to a far greater detail and to a higher level of effectiveness than MCMAP, Army Combatives, Krav Maga, e.c.t. Also the aforementioned systems include elements that are onloy applicable to being a soldier, operative, marine, cop, e.c.t. Bayonet techniques, how to stab people, how to stab people with body armor on, arresting techniuqes. The civilian will never in their life profit from learning such things (unless the zombie apocalypse comes)
Also special forces usually recieve more advanced combat training, this sounds much more badass than it is, what this consist of is a couple local BJJ black belts, krav maga instructors or MMA coaches doing day-long seminars. If you attend a martial art gym, I promise you that you have more combative skill than someone who has EXCLUSIVELY trained in a military system. Civilians get more technique and practice in a week than some military members get in a week long program. Also to specifically address Krav Maga, Im of the mind that when shit really goes down (and how often do armed street fights REALLY happen?) people will do what their muscle memory will tell them. The benefit of jiu jitsu is that we can go 100% and behave identical to how we would in a real fight, many of the KM methods can never be done 100%.
Also, this is America, with the biggest legal system in the world. People get put into jail for defending themselves all the time. Why put yourself in a bad position by permanently damaging your opponent when you can defend yourself and disengage without leaving a bruise? I view KM just like I view people that stockpile automatic weapons (and arent avid shooters), preparing for a eventuality that they saw on a movie that will NEVER happen.
In the defense of KM vs MMA in "reality," I'm happy we have all these gung ho KM guys just in case zombie apocalypse comes who'll be the ground pounders for us. I simply just don't feel like doing Rubber Guard vs something that's just going to bite my crotch off.

This is typical of the kind of training they do. I would never in a million years train my students like that.
That's one thing I never understood with some martial arts; people training to punch a dude's septum into their brain cavity because a fight broke out over a knocked over apple martini. Most fights happen over really dumb things, things that are so dumb that you'll probably be doing life in prison for taking a guy's life over them, no matter how dangerous you may have viewed the scenario at the time.
That being said, there are some disconcerting "strangle laws" that have been put in place in some areas (Arizona is one) recently that make me worried to even safely choke a douche out.
"On July 30, it became a Class 4 felony to impede someone's breath or blood by either strangling them - which under the law includes non-lethal choking - or obstructing their mouth or nose."
