I dont know if i agree when you say exploding is the wrong way to do it. I know that it is good to drill submissions escapes and learn how to escape with technique as well but if you can explode and be technical at the same time then explode can be very beneficial. Im not a believer in getting choked and learning that way. I rather learn technique on how to escape and then in free roll or competition i can explode at the same time being smart and using technique. I don't need to be put to sleep to know that i should tuck my chin or do a two on one on the choking arm. Can you gas by exploding? Definitely...but conserving energy and not getting careless with how your exploding out of something can be useful. Again it is just my opinion but i really do understand what you mean. Different perspective i guess.
One thing for sure is that i would not abandoned lifting. It all depends on how you are lifting and they types of workouts you are doing.
