Royce never but flopped.
True! When I wrote, is it 1993? I meant when they competed against style's. Karate vs. Sumo, Judo vs. Sambo, BJJ vs. Kenpo etc. The one fight back then I would have loved to seen was Royce against that 600 pound Sumo guy! There's no way Royce would've gone into his guard...but of course Keith Hackney chopped the giant down.
^I imagine Royce would have gone for a leg-lock.
I'm sorry, I think the title throws things off. You're totally right. Any MMA fighter who is more grappler than striker should learn all grappling like Vinny Mag. And I wasn't even really saying JJ only. My suggestions are for strikers too. Like I said, wrestling is dominant now because it evolved. I just want to see other guys evolve so we can stop seeing so many wrestlefuck decisions.
hey guys go check out my new post :)
I just realized i dont understand the whole aggression scoring. Is aggression a scoring category to keep it interesting for the fans? Are those points incentive for the fighters to keep the fight exciting? I also realize this may be a dumb question :)
I think MMA has becoming more about ratings and fans, then about the Art of fighting and what different styles can bring to the cage.
All I gotta say is Carlos Condit. It's almost like he read my thread. Hahah. Perfect execution.
Nah I doubt it... leg locks used to be a dirty word in bjj until recently. Plus its hard as fuck to heel hook a dude with beefy legs. You gotta figure those legs have to support all that weight every damn day. Its like a work out to even get up off the couch.
I think the best defense against wrestling for a BJJ practitioner is nullifying his wrestling. We need to accept the fact that it is not easy to sweep a wrestler since they train all their lives to take people down, not to get taken down or swept. Also going for submissions is leaving the BJJ practitioner open for punches to the face and TKO. Even if the TKO does not occur, the BJJ guy takes damage which takes away from his heart, strength and stamina. So perfect way to counter a wrestler is to work on recovering guard and locking him tight in there. not going for anything, but just hold him there. The fight will get stand up eventually. If the fighter goes for a sweep or submission he leaves him self open for attacks and also resets the internal clock of the referee delaying the stand up.
