not getting to train more , my work schedule hogs up the time
i really need to work on my top game, i have problem where when i get there i just wanna roll onto my back and work for something there. ive given up half guard just to get a guy in my half guard and try to get something going. im just not as comfortable there in the slightest, and my knowledge of submissions from the top is incredibly limited. probably due to my lack of experience and time spent sparring etc. hopefully with time ill get better :)
It's not my weakest point, but I always want to see improvement in my sweeping. My weakest point is probably my no gi closed guard break. Since I started training in the gi primarily, I often rely on grips to open the closed guard.
CAR DEE OH!!!
My old ass gets tired, hoes!
One of my knees is permanently jacked and the other gives out sometimes so my top game is weak since it hurts to bend them (kneeling). Pretty much the only thing I'll do from top is JSD or what I call the Steering Wheel; Zog calles it something like Cobra Control. I can't maintain mount worth a crap and my basic side control is pretty wide open and easy to shrimp out of. I can usually hold on to newbies, but anyone with more than 3-4 years of rolling can escape either position without much trouble :(
However, this has made my bottom game, specifically half guard, pretty darn good, and I'm pretty sneaky with my upper body.
Guard passing :(
Well, it seems like we have a general consensus. Skipping cardio (we all know how to train that), it sounds like most of us could use some more top game techniques.
In particular, I would be interested in passes and subs that work on non-TPJJ positions. That fact is, most people don't play lockdown or RG, even at nogi tourneys. I'd like to see some TPJJ-style options against non-TPJJ opponents. For example, with my build (6'0" 150 lbs), maintaining mount was always tricky, but the attacks that are basically upside-down RG (gogos, z-mount, omos, etc) really made a difference to me. Even the gangsta lean gave me some solid (if basic) ideas to play around with. The same from lesser top positions (in guard, regular 1/2-guard, deep-half, and side control) would be awesome
Responsibilities! Family obligations keep me from BJJ! At least till June. The ball & chain is still going to Nursing school for her RN. So I have to hold down the fort, (3 year old) & with only one income, money is tight! So I can't wait for summer 2012! I will be training like a mother f*cker!
This is my post here, and I've only been doing jj for 2 weeks, and my teacher and the one black belt say me flexibility is good for, my size 6'1" 245, and I think I can do okay passing the guard and my cardio is good, just attacking from the guard I constantly have trouble with. I feel like there is nothing I can do, even when I've been taught things when other dudes weren't there the day we learned something new I dont even get to 10% the way there of pulling it off. I tried letting guys get a little loose on me and going into half guard and all the lock down stuff, which has worked well, but aren't I just giving the other person the chance to pass my guard altogether? I know I will learn more over time and get better but its just frustrating because I feel like dudes just sit on me then wait for me to mess up.
