GSP was a better fighter than Mendes and he's evolved much faster. GSP was also more dangerous. I don't think Mendes will improve as fast as GSP did. It's wishful thinking, and I'd be happy for him, but he doesn't show that kind of ability. He's gotten by on athleticism and wrestling. That's not enough to beat Aldo.

Aldo's also a good enough fighter to know how to time a knee. You guys are really buggin. There was not a single shining moment for Mendes except an "almost." Almost doesn't count.

That takedown happened with a minute and a half on the clock. Mendes hasn't put away anybody from top position in a minute and a half. The outcome of the fight would not have been much different. Mendes would've just gotten a TD and gotten into the 2nd round. The fence grab isn't as big a deal as you guys think. Aldo outclassed him the whole match.

Nothing in that fight makes me think that the fight would be much different in a rematch or if the fence grab didnt' happen.

That's fine, but Mendes' wrestling wasn't good enough to take Aldo down. Mendes tried 7 takedowns and didn't get any, unless you count the 1 second that Aldo's knees hit the floor before he popped right back up.

If you want to say that the fence grab would have been a takedown, and you cancel that one out, Mendes was still 0 for 6, and Aldo's takedown defense looked amazing for every one.

It's almost impossible to not grab the fence that 1st time. It's human instinct and hard to train against. Afterwards Aldo never grabbed the fence again, and he shrugged off all the subsequent takedown attempts and got his finish.

Aldo is amazing and his work with Gray Maynard really showed.

I wasn't complaining expecting a point deduction or the ref to do anything more than he did. All I was saying is I wish he wouldn't of grabbed the fence because I wanted to see if that first attempt at the takedown, once he had him wrapped, would of worked for Mendes. I also wanted to see some of Aldo's guard work against a strong wrestler. I wanted Aldo to win I think he's p4p best in the world, better then even Anderson, but I do feel grabbing the fence possibly changed the course of the fight leading to the knock out. I have no complaints about how the incident was handled by the ref.

Yep, this really proves once and for all for me that jiu jitsu is dead in MMA.
And high kicks will get you killed.

How is Jiu-Jitsu dead in MMA? If anything, we're seeing cooler positions and transitions than ever before.
