I've been teaching her for the last 8 years, and in our area it's either my school or a tkd school so she doesn't have much of a choice if she wants to keep training. On my end, I check my personal life at the door.
One of my original instructors was dating a student then got married
She was the most disrespectful student ever she would cry in class and be super aggressive and openly tell him he is showing moves wrong when he is just explaining variations then when grading time came she would throw a hissy fit if she didnt get promoted.
He lost a lot of students because they didnt respect her and he couldnt kick or out or take any action against her.
She got a brownbelt while 9 months pregnant and then lost a match to a bluebelt then got a blackbelt right after
To be fair she lost to sarah "cheesecake" moralas from this season on TUF
ALL women are crazy... you just have to find one that is manageable.
Lol, you get married young, you grow together. :-) I make granola too!
I was fragile at first too, be gentle. Show her some things at home, find her a chick to rep with for 6 months or so..let someone turn the heat up on her. Just not you. Tell her how fun of a workout it is. I started JJ bc it was readily available. I felt uncomfortable going to the normal gym by myself, I didn't want to roll w the guys. Finally got a 13 year old girl as my steady partner...after 2 competitions, and getting decently smashed by girls in the absolute, I turned it up and started rolling with the guys. It was weird at first for probably a lot of people and me, but I got past it. It's just normal now.
Also, us girls like to pow wow. Crystal and I talk about JJ on FB all the time. Tell yo wives to FB us! We can answer all their questions, tell them what's best to wear, etc. Women like to talk to other women about unfamiliar things. They like recommendations from other chicks.
Lol love reading all these stories. Personally I'm pretty blessed. Got my girl into jits because my team is like my family and jiu jitsu is an imp part of my life and she loves it. She vibes well with the guys, works hard, probably my best training partner as we rep and drill a bunch on our own time, and she's even started bringing friends out. She's the first consistent girl to train at our club and is a great example for newbies. I think it all depends on the girl you are with. For me it works, for others, as I'm hearing sometimes yes, sometimes no...I'm obsessed with jits so its great to have someone who isn't sickened by my constant need to watch videos, write articles, stop and try out a technique, etc... problem is now she's starting to compete and I get way more nervous for her matches than mine...
I tried the wife and several girlfriends who didn't care for jits or surfing so when that's a big part of my life it caused friction so thought it would be nice to find a partner in crime I didn't need to get away from. I would settle for surfer girl who just does martial arts you want to share enthusiasm not hide out from your wife or girlfriend.

Jami and I met at a kickboxing gym. I kicked her in a face pretty hard during sparring and kinda had to ask her out after that. It's been over six years and we still together living a very happy life!! She doesn't wanna do jiu Jitsu though, prefers to punch and kick people....
