I use that rubber guard from side control to set up a ghost side control escape into a M'arce. I'm not sure how effective it is though, I catch it in training occasionally but it has been shut down every time in competitions. I still like it though!

I wonder if you could get crucifix set ups from this if you control the wrist with one arm...

Sorry to jack the thread, I have never seen the side rubber guard position before, it looks interesting.
Also thanks ts for this thread, great idea!
Niice thanks for sharing this Sean, one of the most common reactions I've gotten from rubber side (needs better name) is for the opponent to open up and try to press down on your face with his free arm, this makes it possible to isolate it.. seems these techs would compliment the position well.
Someone posted the video link directly from marcelos web page a while back, but then it went private, member only. This is the first time I've posted the video.Quote:
Woah, I've never seen that vid, added it to OP. Did it get passed around cause this vid has 10 views?
This is really interesting. I've never seen Marcelo tap in one of his MGinaction vids.
Kevin Berbich has some great chokes from forcing the head inbetween the legs, it's not with the rubber guard leg entry but I imagine you can work your arm around the neck for a similar choke.

I agree it looks like you could pull that tech off from this position. Sometimes I find my leg has passed their arm, this choke would be right there.
Here's the original video that I ripped the crucifix GIF from if your interested.

Very interesting.
Thanks again Sean!
