Who cares....
This is just silly. When I was a white belt, I caught a brown in a triangle. I didn't think I was the second coming of Renato Laranja for it. I just figured I did the right thing when he was messing around. Everyone gets tapped, sometimes you don't defend something 100% because you get caught not respecting a choke etc.
I don't sweat taps. I figure there's a certain amount of times I'm going to get tapped on the road to that Black Belt. So, every time I get tapped I think I learned something and I'm one step closer. I like Eddie because he's always on a road to somewhere, always evolving, tapping is just one of those steps on the journey.
Eddie's system works, everyone knows that here.
EVERYONE GETS CAUGHT!
I've caught a few Black Belts... it wasn't because I'm an AWESOME Jiu-Jitsu guy, it was because they are human, and sometimes they make human errors.
This "Blue Belt" is probably a sandbagger that caught Eddie on an off day. I've rolled with Eddie on 2-3 occasions and NEVER CAME CLOSE to catching him.
Why are all these threads coming back from two years ago...
It was Renato.
Oh fuck, I started reading this thread, then I saw the Eisner post and looked at the date. Pfft.
Everyone gets caught. If you catch a higher belt once it's not that big of a deal. Was the higher belt working on something? Was he injured? Was he much smaller or out of shape? There are way too many variables for getting a tap on a higher belt once to really matter. Now if you are tapping your legit black belt instructor going full speed 8/10 times then maybe that is saying something.
