In my opinion:
You should be able to practice the moves at your house, for sure, 100%. For free, and with a friend, there's no harm. But attempting to open up a Hotbox, no way. That's super disrespectful to Gary and his students and you should avoid it. You may be broke, but I'd still advise training with Gary, your game won't get better otherwise.
You say he has no understanding of BJJ fundamentals, but you don't know that in the slightest, because you do not understand the basics of BJJ either. Someone may have trash talked him but you're a fool for believing it, Eddie wouldn't let him run a school if he couldn't teach the basics.
10th Planet is widely seen as a system that involves too much advanced stuff and not enough basics, but that's only the books. The 10th Planet SYSTEM overall has evolved so much and encompasses styles from Marcelo to Jeff Glover to Popovitch to the Gracies to the 10th Planet unique moves. Learning basics is priority and too many people think that Eddie isn't aware of this.
To end this ridiculous argument, you should be able to train with a friend in your house, but you can't be an instructing member of the team unless you move away from Indy, that's only respectful to Gary. My biggest tip to you is to forget teaching, get a job and start learning BJJ properly. You're a white belt with the opportunity to train at a 10th Planet school, hotboxes are there for a reason because they have nowhere closer to train.
