Maybe not black yet, but both my belts were won. I won two blue divisions in tournies, got my blue. Won two purple divisions, got my purple. Guess what im gonna have to do to get my brown? probly mma.
And although I cherish my belt and respect others, especially when under badsses, Ive known a couple really,really good white belts that force me not to underestimate anyone, untill they give me reason too besides a 'whitebelt' label. If their knowledge isnt up to par, so be it, then the label fits. But there are several whites around here and on this site that are just misleading.
Nice job avoiding your statement and listing INDIVIDUALS. Hierarchical systems is how society has evolved, and is the only way it is run today. Individuals have no power then say a group of them being led in an organized manner by a leader. Ranking is everything, a sign of control and influence. For example; your comments as a white belt will be held to a much lesser value on a BJJ technique or subject than if a black belt were to say it. That is fact. If you were to advertise you were doing a seminar, listed as a white belt, how many would show up? Belts and rank matter, like it or not.Quote:

No it does not. Blue belts often have stronger singular submissions as they have fewer tools, were a purple or brown belt will let it go, or use it as a set up.
The ranking is different. There may be no physical progress belts given by coaches, but a coach does still assess your ability. Especially when they recommend you to go pro. There's still a ranking system. There's still a measure of progress which your teacher assesses. The only difference is that there is no visual marker of progress where in BJJ there is. Either way, there is still what you call a "heirarchy" between student and teacher.Quote:

Again, apples an oranges. In BJJ the belt is more a marker of knowledge. A boxing belt is a marker of competition. Both serve their purpose. But each sport is ranked differently.Quote:

This guy has claimed in another thread he trains at 10th Planet Headquarters yet no one has verified it. It was kind of like people were scared to question it. He has made some bold claims saying he was raving in the 80's during the initial dub step era, then traveling through Europe in the 90s. This would make him about 50 if he was about 20 years old during any of those claims. I think this guy is a fraud and if someone can verify he trains there, I would like to meet this guy as I will be there in a few couple weeks.
