Ryan Hall Teaching The Twister Roll

I used to set up my twisters with the twister roll a little bit lazy by not extending my legs in the truck... This backfired on me big time when I was visiting HQ again this year. It wasn't as lazy as Ryan's setup he's showing in that clip, but I still lost the position and got flipped...

We got another 10th Planet Blue Belt (Tobias Wengler) here who's really good at flipping the position. So you really have to execute the roll and everything else perfectly - otherwise you'll tap from being twistered.

But then again, we're not wearing the gi - where you get away with being lazy during attacks.

I believe that match with Denny Prokopos was all set and Ryan Hall turned it down.

Ryan turned down a super fight with Denny last month, he said that Denny isn't at his level. Yeah, right dude. Denny won the Nogi Worlds as a brown and placed 3rd as a black the very next year, plus he won the gold at the IBJJF Nationals and the FILA Worlds, AND he's the first 10th Planet black belt. Not at Ryan's level??? All 10th Planet family members should take offense to that. Ryan got 3rd at ADCC because Leo Viera and Rany both bowed out of the competition and never won the Nogi worlds, him thinking Denny is not at his level is ridiculous.

Ryan does seem a bit on the arrogant side telling everyone what works and what doesn't at the high level and if anyone could tool him, it would probably be Denny. And even if Denny wasn't on his level, Ryan didn't seem to have any trouble rolling with Hermes Franca in a SUPERFIGHT who didn't look anywhere near his level, but you were there. I don't have to tell you that. I wonder if he scared.

I don't have a dog in this fight, and I'm gonna stay away now, but Ryan did win the No-Gi Worlds at Purple in 2007. That was the only year he participated in them. I know he had a Triangle, RNC, and a Darce. I don't know how many matches he had, or in what order those subs came in.

I'm not saying Ryan isn't an awesome grappler, he definitely is, but for him to say that Denny isn't at his level should sound preposterous to anybody that knows the game

BTW, did Denny do the No-Gi Worlds this year? I didn't see the stream... Hope he did well if he did it! It seemed like not a lot of ppl were there this year.

I don't disagree with you Eddie. I'm a big fan of both players. Like I said, I don't have a dog in this fight. That would be a match I would like to see though.

Denny is a monster and should definitely be given the chance to choke ryan.

ryan is bad ass and that fuckin fact, the dude is great at what he does he is an innovator and has done a lot for jiu-jitsu.

the twister, the twister roll, the truck, thats what made eddie infamous respect should be given and thats that. As much as people bitch about 10th planet moves eddie shows love to the people he LEARNED them from or picked it up from all the time.

i am disappointed to hear that he said this. i have met him and was really impressed with him, and obviously he is a fantastic grappler and teacher.

in my opinion, the way ryan teaches this particular aspect of the game is inferior to the way eddie teaches it. that having been said, there are still some good details regarding angle and timing that i think those of us under the Master level could learn a lot from.

let's make the HALL vs PROKOPOS fight happen!
