As JC said The only issue is with the 10th planet "rank" shirts and "rank" boardshorts and rashguards, all else is fair game.
If its a non ranked shirt or rashguard no one will care. If you wear a brown or black under armor shirt or rashguard to class it wont be an issue.
Maybe they can make a variation of all the shirts so that it actually says "Blue Belt" on the back of it so that there is no doubt someone is claiming that rank. And now you can let everyone know what belt you are. Talk about being humble though. The rest of the shirts would now be able to be worn by anyone who wants to represent the system, and they don't have to worry about not being able to color match their clothes cause of some sort of technicality. An idea to the issue.
Sensei Herzog knows his stuff and already put my ass in line look frank your a white belt we are new to this game the rules have been made and set out the way they are for a reason!
Agreed. I wasn't being serious though about the big bold "Blue Belt" on the back, it's just funny. I don't even own any shirts, it was for the rest of the guys that are wanting to wear them you know.
The rank t-shirt system I understand and respect, but I prefer wearing a rashguard in competition instead of a t-shirt.
Now maybe I've looked over it, but I can only find 1 rashguard (black with some white) on the melee site and the rest are the colored rank t-shirts.
Now considering my (sarcasm)sexy and atlethic(/sarcasm) build, I will never wear a light colored rashguard, so to overcome this problem I buy a cheap, yet decent black rashguard (9.99€) and order some 10th Planet patches in the correct color from the site.
Add some superglue and voila: you have a black rashguard with a white rank patch stuck on your chest.
I wonder why are people so obsessed with belts and rankings. I mean if you are not trying to get a higher belt so you can teach the sport at a gym or have it in your mma fighter resume, belt means absolutely nothing. It is actually a burden. I know BB jiujitsu guys who has not trained in 2-3 years and now are scared to go back on the mat and train with that BB since they would be tooled around by conditioned and continuously training purple belts. I did not train with the GI a whole lot, so I am a white belt, but when I tap blue belts, I wonder how they feel. If it was me, I would be embarrassed, I would be asking myself, am I worth of this rank?
I am not saying i will not be tapped by a lower rank student of the game, ofcourse it is going to happen here and there but minimizing the occurrences would be good.
My personal opinion on the subject is that if you are representing yourself as colored belt, you now have the responsibility to act, talk, advice, teach and roll like one and it is not easy even on the blue belt level. If you think having a rank in BJJ is less than that, then go ahead and put on a hot pink belt if you want and say that it was actually red belt 15 stripes that went off color due to multiple washings, no one will care.
