Robson Moura

He's awesome and has a ton of prestigious titles.

Why is it that we rarely hear him mentioned when people talk about the greatest jiu jitsu fighters/practitioners?

IMO it's because he's not a youtube era champion. He had racked up most of his titles before BJJ became popular on youtube. It's the same with a guy like Terere or Shaolin or Leo Santos.

Also at least with the 10th P guys, Robson didn't do as much ADCC or No-Gi Worlds, and no MMA, so I doubt many 10th P guys are really watching his Worlds matches, etc.

Very true. There are phenomenal gi players out there. If you ask any gi guy, they'll know who Robson is. Terere, Ruben Charles, same thing.

But the highest recognition for no gi is to win at the highest no gi levels: ADCC's(one division), and Worlds. Pan Ams are getting more popular for nogi as well.

Love me some hobson, his super no-gi DVD's are improving my game drastically especially pro level insight on fundamentals of positions and control...

My buddy keeps posting on facebook he needs something to do everyday, so I looked for a local jiujitsu school for him, turns out hes like 8 miles from Robson's school in FL that Robson's always at and personally instructs classes. So immaking my friend go there although he dosen't realize how lucky he is to be able to train with Robson directly for just a regular bjj class rate but im sure he will soon ;]

My local school is in the process of Nova Uniao affiliation. They bring in black belts to do seminars, belt testing, etc. One of them, Steve Snyder from high point, NC told me that when Robson was young the Shiek invited him out and he turned him down. Robson was young and immature at the time and did not realize what a big honor that was. It took him a long time to recover from that.

Robson is a 7 time World Champion in the Gi. No-gi he has had success at a high level but he's never been elite compared to his Gi success.

I think it has to do with the way he says S-mount....

Are you kidding me? It's not like he did a bunch of ADCC events and lost, he's only done a few no-gi tournaments ever.

not trying to come off like a dick. The way you wrote that just makes it read like he does both all the time for all these years and just isn't as good without the gi. The fact is besides a couple of Grappler's Quest comps and ADCC 2001 and 2011 I don't think Robson has even done anything else no-gi.

So basically for "elite" tournaments he has done 2 no-gi. In 2001 he got the Bronze, and in 2011 he lost on points to Rafael Mendes and got subbed by Jeff Glover in a match he was controlling until the final 20 seconds. That's elite in any book. Robson is a boss, and if he had been able to do ADCC in 03/05/07/09 he would have been right there with the Roylers, Rani Yahyas, Leo Vieiras, Cobrinhas, and Rafa Mendes.

He's way past his competitive prime and did fantastic at ADCC last year. The only time he didn't look beast mode was when Glover wrapped his head up and when Rafa leg dragged him.
