Elevation Training Masks
Just wondering if anyone, or you know of anyone, who is or has used one. Sean Sherk's looks and sounds good but....do they work? This is how I look at any move or technique....does it work. If it does, great..use it. If it doesn't then get rid of it. Anyone's thoughts?

I'd be interested in trying one.

I think you need to use it on a regular basis for long term affects. Just like training at high altitude, if your only training there for a week and then go home you loose the benefits.

There are certainly cheaper ways of fucking oneself up in order to improve cardio.

Have no idea 10th Planet Santa Fe is @ 7k+ feet above sea level lol

Pretty darn good explanation of how and why elevation training works (but not neccesarily for mma) and why the training mask doesn't improve cardio/conditioning for mma training by Eric Wong... worth reading through if you are a coach, personal trainer or just interested in the science.

I have heard over and over: It does not simulate altitude, but it DOES strengthen your lungs and the surrounding performance. It will not effect your blood oxygen levels like it claims, but it WILL improve your cardio and breathing for combat sports. I have friends who have them, including friends who have since the version 1 came a year or so back, and they all say it has improved their breath control noticeably.
ALSO: I have consistently heard claims that this product improves handling asthma greatly, I have heard first hand and read second hand that the strengthening of muscles involves makes breathing during asthma attacks much easier and manageable. Something to consider as opposed to steroidal inhalants for strengthening(I dont know much about asthma but just sharing the possiblity)...
