The d-smith!
Teach me shidoshi!
Everyone in the Orpheum got fired up when he did that. It was awesome.
I've never seen this counter to a D'Arce attempt. Can anyone familiar with this technique give a tip?
i yelled, my gf asked me what happened, then i thought about how complicated it would be to explain to her what i saw and just said "you wouldn't understand...." (i might as well have run into my room and slammed the door like an angst-filled teenager would do around their parents)
Only other person I've ever seen do it is Keenan Cornelius at the last ADCC. You can also do it if they go for the darce from top side or off a bull fight pass but it's a little bit harder because you have to get both your legs in. From half guard I think it's easier because you already have one hook in once you invert.
I don't think it counts as a tip but I've done it one time by accident. I just tried inverting to defend the darce because I don't like going to my knees. It opens up the marce. People can obviously step over and darce you from the full mount if you put your back to the mat or even flip over you for a rolling marce but I still prefer a going flat to back and trying to invert defense. One time it just kinda happened and I was on the back.
Here's a little instructional from Eddie Bravo on how to take the back from half guard that way. It's the closest you'll probably find to an instructional on this. You'll just need to feel it out to adapt it off getting darce choked.
