Thats going to be such a good fight!!!
Super Pumped!
A British black guy and a white thug. Fucking madness.
I'm stoked as well! Diaz should be able to grapple and sub Daley easily enough unless he gets into a brawl with him, then Daley has that chance of landing some heavy shots, but we've seen Diaz walk through some heavy shots before. Cyborg landed some bombs that Diaz did't even blink for. Most likely Daley won't make weight and it will be made a non-title fight, just like at BAMMA last weekend. I mean who the fuck doesn't make weight for a title fight, besides Travis Lutter? Kawajiri is a tough match up for Gilbert IMO. Kawajiri is one of the few Japaneese fighters with excellent wrestling and take down defence. He used it to dominate Josh Tompson in his last outing and he could make it a very tough fight for Gilbert.
Here's the card as of now;
•Champ Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley (for welterweight title)
•Champ Gilbert Melendez vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri (for lightweight title)
•Mike Kyle vs. Gegard Mousasi
•K.J. Noons vs. TBA
not making weight for a title fight is definitely lacking intensity.
Daley hits a lot harder than Cyborg at 170. I think if Diaz stands there letting him hit him he's going to sleep. Diaz gets crap for being careless and kind of a thug...but he's a smart fighter. I'm sure he is training to get Daley on the ground. Standing and slugging with Daley is ill advised at any level. Daley hit's like a truck. Diaz should move counter, get him on the ground and submit him. Daley, allegedly, has been working on his takedown defense...but I always considered him a mini rampage jackson. However, his roots are muay thai and Nick didn't do real well with cyborg in that regard. It seemed odd that he appeared unprepared for cyborg trying to chop him down.
I think this will be a great test for both fighters to see if they are truly world class. If semtex beats diaz, he will be back in the UFC (I don't care what dana says). If Nick beats him easily you gotta consider Nick in a top 5 conversation at 170.
We need to monitor the smack talk heavily. If they go at it and diaz's manhood gets called into question he will try to bang with semtex. If he does, I am putting all my money on the brit. Nick takes way too many dome punches and noons and cyborg got pillow fists compared to semtex. If nick plays his own game he submits daley in the 2nd round via kimura.
Daley has had a couple good KO's since his decision win over Jorge Masvidal (Ko'd Smith and Shirai) but that Masvidal fight made me question the hype behind his punches a little bit. He caught Jorge with some hard shots but still couldn't finish him or stop his takedown attempts. He knocks guys out but never anyone who is of a high level of tallent. His TKO of Kampmann was his biggest win, I think. If he can knock out Diaz I might buy into the hype that he spreads about "hitting harder then any other welterweight" but until he can finish some top tallent I'm not buying into that.
I Think My View is Shown Well By this

I think in a lot of ways one can question Diaz as well. That's why I like the fight. Diaz has not fought any elite guy either. I mean his big wins are over KJ Noons...dude got knocked out by crazy horse. I think that might be both of there problems...they can't beat the elites...so let's see what they do against each other. I don't doubt Semtex's power at welterweight....you can have power and not knock folks out. I doubt his discipline and all around game
