Kendall, do you have his x-guard book? The intro has some interesting information in it regarding his gi and no-gi training background (though it doesn't necessarily provide the answer you are looking for).
He says that he had only trained without a gi one time until he took a job teaching at Fabio Gurgel's academy. Said he didn't even know how to train without a gi. But it was so hot there in the academy (which didn't have air conditioning) that they trained exclusively without the gi.
i dont. but ive thought about getting it. yup, you just talked me into it. ordering now.
I take the 12:30 no gi class which is given on Tues, Wed and Thurs and Marceo teaches every class and rolls pretty much every class. He teaches the 6pm and 7:30pm class as well and those classes include both gi and no gi. I'm not sure which her prefers but I know he feels students should train in both gi and no gi to become proficient. He told me once that the gi slows things down and allows you to think about what to do next whereas no gi is much faster and gives you less chance to really think about what you're doing.
You guys mentioned everything about the gi he says except for the fact that if you make a mistake in the gi, you pay dearly for it. No gi, is so much easier to get out of ad positions, unlike the super hero costume that might as well have handlebars everywhere
This is his schedule:

Maybe Ric can say what classes Marcelo does and doesn't teach but it looks like out of 30 classes a week, 20 are gi and 10 are no-gi.
I'm not making an official statement for the academy here, but to the best of my knowledge Marcelo teaches the 12:30, 6pm and 7pm classes every day. It amounts to a lot of classes.
BTW, please check the Marcelo Garcia You Tube page. I made all of these videos and I'm very proud of them. I feel they give a good insight into what its like to train at the academy: http://www.youtube.com/user/MarceloGarciaAcademy
I always loved this one
